You're overthinking it. Put oil on the o ring on the filter, tighten filter by hand until its good and snug.

There's a seal that separates the final drive from the hydro. I've never seen it leak, but I suppose it's possible. Only way I know it could overfill that housing

What did you do to "clean the injectors?"

MX's are a no frills, basic workhorse, where as the Grand L's have more options.

Any additives in your fuel? Have seen some instances where an additive will cause the machine to run sluggish after it's up to operating temperature. When it starts to do this, pull the fuel line off that goes into the injection pump and check your flow, make sure its a good strong stream.
