Regen and def on large vs small kubotas

Same guys who designed the new "spill proof" gas cans came up with the above regs. I think those cans spill more fuel than was ever spilled before, and for four times the hassles I didn't see him say there were a lot of them. Just that it might be worth shopping around for one. Again...

Locust Thorns - Threat to tires?

Maybe I have some of each? Looking at pictures online (just now), the two big trees out by my apple trees are Honey Locust. There's a big thicket of smaller sharp trees nearby and they tend to crop up in the fence line. I wonder if the smaller one I burnt was Black Locust? I've been...

How to mix with out a tiller?

I'm not even sure why I think scuffing it up first would be a good idea. If it's fairly dry I think just back dragging with the bucket might somewhat work. If the manure is wet I think it'll just be a mess. Maybe spread the soil out first (slowly spreading it out of the bucket instead of...

Locust Thorns - Threat to tires?

I do not know what what kind of locust I have (it has big thorns), but it is a very dense, hot burning wood. I have two huge trees that need to come down eventually. They are too close to my apple trees to burn easily, so I've been waiting.

How to mix with out a tiller?

I'm assuming you don't have a cultivator or disk. Do you have any kind of box blade, plow, middle-buster, or whatever? I'd think first scuffing the area where you are dumping it, then dumping it, maybe in alternating windrows, and then dragging the new stuff around until it all looks the same...

Regen and def on large vs small kubotas

That's why I'm here. My plan was to milk the older gas tractors for a few more years, then replace with a newer model in my old age. Several friends that farm strongly suggested that I jump sooner rather than later. I spent more than I really should have (sold an antique car I really wasn't...

    4760 snowblower

Agree that a local dealer would know more about hp requirements vs type and amount of snow. Another thing to consider is the weight of the blower. My 50 pto hp tractor has been able to drive my IH-80 (84"?) blower just fine in the fluffly snows we've had so far, but you sure notice when you...

    RPMs

With my other tractors (all gas) I aimed for the 540 PTO speed, even when not using the PTO. But I would also cheat to get the speed I wanted in a particular gear. My JD had a throttle stop I set at PTO speed, but you could pull the knob out and "go to 11". I don't think I ever did that...

    Engaging PTO for off-tractor use

I'll give that a try. The manual says to tilt seat forward, then engage PTO, then bring up engine speed (w/ no mention of clutch). Re-reading the manual, it also doesn't say to use the clutch when engaging the PTO, even when seated. Also, per the earlier question, the book says clutch...

    Engaging PTO for off-tractor use

Yes, pushing the clutch stops the PTO. I didn't realize it would, but I kind of like that. I'm pretty sure that saved my bacon on my Ford when the mower grabbed some barb-wire. I had just enough time to panic and stomp on the clutch -- I never would have got the PTO off in time on my JD...

    Engaging PTO for off-tractor use

On my L5740 the seat safety switch can be bypassed by folding the seat forward before engaging the PTO. I was taught to push the clutch in when engaging or disengaging the PTO (on other tractors w/ 2-stage clutches, and I think in this users manual also). Surely they don't want me to try to...

Ran tractor out of oil, need to pull the engine

Exactly what I was going to say. Good job

    L185 motor oil drain

Does something else use that engine? Maybe the engine designer envisioned an application blocking access to one or the other? Much smaller, but my rototiller has two (drains and fills, I believe), and one is blocked by the frame.

    Newbie needs info

That has not been my experience. I have two 55 year old, two-wheel drive tractors with power steering. The last tractor I had without power steering was my (1950s?) IH Farmall M.

New to diesel -- what don't I know?

Well, you're not paying the road tax on the dyed diesel (that's why it's red, so they can tell if you use it on the road). Locally I've been told that the closest place that sells the off-road diesel puts better additive in, so it's win/win for me. I did save a pickle jar of #2, and it did...
