    l285 Steering Gear Box

So when I needed a power steering box and the only one I could find was listed as "manual" it was in fact a ps unit? I should buy it from you and keep it a a spare!

    Kubota not firing - 1985 L305

It's surprising how many engines won't start because the system has corroded wires or terminals or harness plugs somewhere. Every wiring connection starts life shiny new. But when they pass current, corrosion starts (on a molecular scale). Eventually there's enough damage to affect...

    Kubota not firing - 1985 L305

Video shows not enough electric power getting to the starting system. It needs to spin over faster. Best way to assist the starting system is to use good jumper cables connected to another running vehicle (like your SUV). The running voltage is up closer to 14v. Even with the glowplugs...

    L345 temp gauge issue

New block should work with old sensor (go easy on the thread sealant so it doesn't insulate the ground). Also check that the coolant level is up near the radiator cap. If it's not high enough to wet the sensor it can make the gauge goofy. With the four dash screws removed, the dash will lift...

    Smoking hydrostatic vent

It's likely water vapor. The gear housings are vented but the hst unit itself is not vented. Its internal charge pump keeps it filled with oil. A feature of hst drives is they put a lot of shearing energy (heat) into the fluid. The big oil volume in the housings is the heat sink. As...

    L275 4x4 power steering

The power assist offered by the original style steering box isn't very strong so you might not find a new aftermarket manual box that much harder to steer.

G5200 - Go bang- Saw light at the end of the tunnel, WAIT, MASSIVE FAIL

Breaking both bolts takes some serious forces, but this may not be a huge failure. Are we sure the engine still turns normally? Will it run without the pump connected? Try trapping the shaft with wood to keep it from flailing around? Maybe try turning the starter with the fuel cut? A...

    10W-30 in a diesel?

No worries - lots of Kubota's small diesels are used in tractors, skid steers, and stationary equipment. Kubota factory owner's manuals often list 10w-30 and 10w-40 as the recommended oil. The actual difference between these and 15w-40 is not perceptible to most owners. Shell has done a good...

    l285 Steering Gear Box

Earlier this year my L345's power steering needed repair and I looked into possibly switching to a manual steering box (same part as on the L285 - 35340-16100). I had located a used one at Cook Tractor in Clinton, Missouri. I was able to fix mine so I didn't buy it. I just talked to them -...

    L3450 PTO clutch (again)

No doubt a cab really lengthens a split job. It's ok to take a few more laps around the denial track - everyone with a worn clutch does it as long as possible. Take care, Dick B

    L3450 PTO clutch (again)

While the dual clutch does have some separate adjustment, the travel disk wears quicker than the pto disk. There's usually enough adjustment to restore pto disengagement for a while, but there is very little margin left. You might get a bit of relief by reducing free play even further, but the...

Added Hard Canopy - Now Louder

I've tried two brands of over-the-ear noise-reducing headphones. The first pair was the acclaimed John Deeres (where Deere had bought the inventor's company). They were very effective but rough handling did them in. Now I have a Bose pair - they reduce noise well and are holding up to normal...

L225 clutch and input shaft issue

Re: L255 clutch and input shaft issue Is your L225 2-wheel drive? The Kubota parts list for the L225 shows 3 versions of this part, depending on serial number. Need actual model and S/N to know the right part number. The necked-down end of the part in the picture looks like it might be an...

    L4150 hydraulic problem

The hydraulic hoses need to be connected differently when the backhoe is removed. I've sent you a PM with some questions (and maybe some answers) Dick B

    L5450

The flickering may not be related to low max speed. First and most important check engine oil level. Once a L5450 starts it doesn't need electricity to keep going - just uses 12v for lights, alternator, etc. Does it start and idle ok? If it won't gain rpm to approx 2600 rpm the reason is...

    L3400D PTO stripped engagement gear

PTO gears are all inside, midway back. It will likely need to be split behind the clutch housing. You can get an idea of what's where looking at the parts diagrams. Won't know which parts are needed until its apart. WSM helps.

Could I damage the PTO by doing this?

BigTrees: In the picture in post #17 it looks like the mower's stub shaft has splines. Does it? Or is it smooth? Also the pto shaft must be free to extend and compress a couple inches in operation. Blocking its motion is not a good idea - pvc would crush before causing an upset but stronger...

Could I damage the PTO by doing this?

The telescoping pto shaft has to get longer and shorter as the tractor and mower move along uneven ground. Both ends need to be retained so the splines stay engaged. But if the shaft is too long it can't compress enough and something has to give.

Could I damage the PTO by doing this?

I think the pto shaft is too long and its bottoming out when the back end of the attachment lifts, shearing the soft bolt. The harder bolt is strong enough to actually force the back of the tractor up. This is a dangerous situation because in the right circumstances it could tip the tractor...
