When the exhaust thows dark smoke under load, Injectors?

Under a heavy load, with a diesel tractor that has mechanical fuel injection, what happens is that the engine bogs down and the RPMs drop. However, the fuel rack is still wide open and the RPMs are not as fast as the engine expects...so more fuel is injected than is necessary for the engine...

    L2501 - New delivery

Sounds like a nice machine - most everybody that buys a 2501 seems to be pretty happy. I was skeptical at first of an L-sized machine with only 25HP, but it seems to be fine. Keeping just under the emissions limit lowers the price and increases the reliability of the 2501. Congrats!

    L2501 Cruise Control

The cruise lever is simply a friction device that holds the HST pedal to a certain position. It sounds like the lever needs more friction, or needs to be tightened. The dealer should do this for you, free.

    I'll take it!

I hope you guys are happy now

I can't wait for winter; I'm hoping for extreme cold and tons of snow. I really like the cold and snow; don't mind plowing, don't mind driving in it. Really enjoy getting out on the snowmobiles or even some cross-country skiing. It's too darn hot right now in NH. I don't like Labor Days that...

How many hours on your tractor.

    2002 L4310 - sold - 620 hours 2013 B2920 - 530 hours 2018 MX4800 - 20 hours so far No problems with any of them, ever.

    Adjustable Rear Wheel Width?

Some of the largest Kubota tractors (think M7 series, over 100HP) have axles that stick out and the wheel width can be moved (slid) along the axle to different positions. The purpose is for row crow farming to set the wheel width to the appropriate row size. Alternately, this type of axle allows...

diesel exhaust & shortness of breath

I know its not always possible for people to buy newer equipment, but one advantage of modern tractors equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) is that they no longer produce a diesel smell. It isn't the "smell" that's giving you the shortness of breath anyway, it's the particulate matter...

    Hst pedal

Re: Hst pedeal My 2018 MX4800 has the same problem. It won't start half the time because the pedal does not return to the center, neutral position well. I have to money with it. I've also noticed leaning off the seat can cause the engine to die but that is because of the safety switch. I will...

Having my rear wheels pushed out

Got it back from the dealer and now we are 76" wide...nice gain from 70". I'll definitely appreciate that on the slopes.

Having my rear wheels pushed out

Yep, thought about this. But I decided to follow the manual and just move it out to the widest setting permissible by Kubota. Plus, unfortunately my trailer bed sits between the fenders...so even though fender to fender it is 102" wide the bed itself is only 82"...so that had to be considered too.

Having my rear wheels pushed out

So my new MX4800 with ag tires appears to be about 70" wide measured to the outside edges of each rear tire. However, the rim dish is mounted on the outside of the rim lugs, and it appears the dish can be mounted to the inside of the lug...pushing the rim itself out another 2" or so on each...

    60” mower guard removal?

I took the grass discharge guard off the day I bought my 60" belly mower for my B-series. Much cleaner discharge. I guess if you mow in rocks you might want it on, otherwise not. I removed it from my zero turn as well. I do keep the belt guards on...they collect grass but don't harm the belts.

    Trailer Tie downs

This is a good discussion for sure. A BX machine is reasonably lightweight and straps can be used. A quality 2" strap is the minimum I would ever use for a machine like this. I have a B series which is a little heavier than a BX, plus an MX which is considerably heavier. I run commercial...

    RPMS Non DPF

I didn't mean that *you* were twisting things, just maybe getting slightly away from the original discussion. No offense meant. But in the original post, he was discussing doing loader work...not running the PTO. I've stated since the beginning that PTO operation needs to be at or very near wide...

    MX5200 fuel issue?

The MX5200 is a common-rail engine. It is much *less* tolerant of fuel contamination than the older mechanical injection systems were. The big reason is injection pressure is much higher on a common rail. You'll note that the MX5200 has an electric lift pump (even though the tank is still above...

    RPMS Non DPF

Let's not twist things - nobody is suggesting 'operating' a tractor at idle or just above idle. The OP was talking about 1500RPM or so. He was also not talking about running the PTO. As I said, most PTO implements are designed to operate at 540RPM...which is just below wide open throttle...

    RPMS Non DPF

Frankly, I disagree with 85Hokie's assessment. Creature Meadow, you actually have it right. Some tasks require full throttle, others do not. Running something like a mower off the PTO shaft usually requires full power. This supplies necessary horsepower to the implement, and also the optimal...

    wet dirt leveling

Like others have said...remove the belly mower first. It is likely to get you stuck fast. I notice you also have turf tires...which are not ideal for mud either. I think you are definitely best off to wait for it to dry up at least some. Sorry to hear about the loss of the dirt that was brought...

    Question

If you are in high range, sometimes the machine will keep rolling slightly. Especially if you are headed downhill, but even on flat ground. It shouldn't do this in low range.
