    New tractor break-in advice, please

I think you'll be very happy with your new B2601. My B2920 is very similar and it's been the best tractor I've ever owned. I flail mowed 30 acres twice a year on steep slopes with it, and it also amazed me how much work this small tractor could do. The size is perfect...very maneuverable in...

    New tractor break-in advice, please

You're doing things exactly right Stmar, but these things are very durable. My 2013 B2920 - I ran it at wide-open with less than 20 hours on it for flail mowing. It has 519 hours on it now, most of its life has been spent wide open...RPM needle beyond the 540PTO mark...runs the same as it did...

    New tractor break-in advice, please

Your B2601 does not have a DPF nor a need to perform regenerations. That's why the standard B-series no longer includes the B2920 model, because it would require a DPF and raise the price considerably. Idling is not inherently "bad" for a diesel any more than it is "bad" for any engine. What...

    Keep it in 4WD!

First off, to the OP: I like your black tractor better than your orange one - cool rig! That said, Kubota really needs to put a 4x4 "on" indicator lamp on the dashboard somewhere. That is a cheap way for people to both be safer and reduce wear when they don't need it. As for braking in 2WD...

    High speed run, pretty scary

Yes, you are correct. I guess it's possible you could pop a "range" out of gear, but under load the lever doesn't move easily. Interesting how you are supposed to depress the clutch on a B-series or BX but larger HST tractors have no clutch and range change can be done without a clutch, so...

    Tractor running hot

With the radiator cold, just use a garden hose. When water comes cleanly out the other side, your radiator is clean. Work your way up and down, from one side to the other.

    High speed run, pretty scary

Have you tried this on a steep downhill slope? I mean actually steep. HST is design to stop the tractor, which it will do on fairly level ground...but won't on a hill. This is where you notice a gear tractor does a lot better.

    New L3901 Hissing Noise

My MX4800 (17 hours on it now) also makes this hissing sound with my foot off the hydro pedal. Any slight application of forward or reverse (not even enough to make the machine move) causes the hissing to instantly go away. I'm assuming normal.

    L2501 - What can't it do...

I think it's basically normal tractor use. I think your diff lock will be fine. I've heard of problems with them on the BX? Not so much the L. I've used mine extensively on my B-series. You have to really stomp it to make it engage, but it still does. As for fording the creek...your tractor...

New member intro and couple questions

I don't see a problem with engaging the diff lock with a wheel already spinning, especially in a low gear. The diff lock doesn't engage instantly anyway, at least one wheel revolution is required to get the pin to engage in the differential. I've engaged my diff lock for years in this manner...I...

    High speed run, pretty scary

HST should not "pop out of gear" since there are no gears. It's not a CVT, either. It uses a variable hydraulic nozzle, that's all. HST has less "engine braking" effect than a gear-drive tractor, although it does have some. The higher the range selected, the less braking effect available. As...

    Tractor running hot

Oil cooler might help but still won't solve a plugged up radiator.

    Tractor running hot

My brand new 2018 MX4800 with 8 hours on it was overheating, *in NH*, a few weeks ago while flail mowing at wide open throttle. The culprit was a plugged radiator of course. Grass, chaff, dust get through the mesh radiator screen and then plug up the radiator fins. It's important to wait for...

    L2501 HST 4wd

Generally speaking, using 4x4 only as needed is best. On high-traction surfaces, like pavement, or rock, or concrete...the part-time 4x4 system of these tractors will bind upon turning and it puts a large amount of stress on the drivetrain. This is because as the front wheels turn, they are...

regen while mowing dry weeds? fire hazard?

The process is the same, except Ford dumps fuel into the cylinders on the exhaust stroke...Kubota is more like GM with an extra injector right into the DPF. But if you are using your tractor a lot at high RPM (I flail mow with my MX4800 at wide open throttle) than regens are not until 35-50...

    Show me your Refueling Setup

Maybe not a great pic, but it's what I use. RDS aluminum 60-gallon diesel tank, DOT-approved, with locking cap, fuel gauge, Fill-Rite transfer pump and hydrosorb filter, auto shut-off pump nozzle. I'm filling a B2920 and MX4800 that work in the field a lot. I can bring the fuel to them, and...

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

The MX4800 makes 118lb-ft. I’m not sure what the L4310 makes, but it is slightly smaller in displacement so I’m assuming less. The flail mower is brand new, identical to the other mower.

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

In addition to the power output, my brand-new tractor would not start yesterday! Sat fiddling with the key for about 10 min, moving all the levers to make sure everything was in neutral. Gauges swipe, warning lights come on, no crank. I'm sure a safety switch is failing somewhere... Plus, the...

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

Thanks - I don't get PM emails. I've dealt with Dave in the past and agree - great guy. I need to make sure this issue is not in my head before I bother those guys though.
