Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

I'm having a hard time believing this. Rated PTO horsepower reveals how much the HST uses. The difference between a gear drive MX4800 and my HST is 1.5 PTO HP. Nevertheless, this HST tractor still makes 1.5 PTO HP *more* than my L4310 GST. Heck, my 29HP B-series (HST) runs a 4-foot flail quite...

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

This particular field was not mowed last year at all, and obviously its mid July now. The grass is tall and thick. That might be part of my problem. I've never mowed this field my my old L4310. However, in a couple of months I'll be mowing 4 properties that I just mowed last month with the...

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

Hmm...I was in their shop recently. Interesting...I can ask. Thanks BAP.

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

Well, you and I use the same dealer and I'm quite certain they don't have a dyno... Maybe because the engine is new and not broken in it will gradually make a bit more power as things wear in.

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

Yes, I know. I also have a 2013 B2920 HST and it seems the performance from that HST is more "predictable." This MX has the hydraulic servo foot pedal which does make pedal input very easy but harder to have the "feel" of how much power you are asking for.

Brand-new MX4800 - not happy with power output

I bought a brand new MX4800 HST a few weeks ago and yesterday mowed a field with a 6-foot flail mower. It was the first "actual" use of the tractor besides moving it around my yard. In short, I feel like this tractor bogs down easily in heavy, tall grass...especially uphill...even when moving...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

That is true...convection-effect circulation. There are probably more than a million EcoBoost trucks on the road today, let alone all the other turbo vehicles. I'd bet less than 5% of drivers allow their turbos to cool.

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Majorwager, the intake valves will never *all* be shut together. So while there will be some restriction, it will not be complete. Turbos spin incredibly fast. It is a relatively short period that they spin after the engine is off, but long enough to create a problem. As for synthetic Super...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Majorwager, your tractor isn't DPF-equipped? Or was it just made before the regs hit? Hotter EGT indeed helps a regen. That's why pickups with diesels have to regenerate less if they are being worked hard...e.g. towing heavy loads. But that is based upon EGTs, not engine water and oil temps...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

Running synthetic oil does not solve the turbo problem. Does it help because it can withstand more heat? Possibly. Does Kubota require or recommend synthetic engine oil? Nope. The problem is that the turbine wheel bearings on both the hot and cold side are lubed with engine oil. When your engine...

New B2601 TLB and Kubota won't let me have spacers?

I think Dave is correct. I have a B2920 which is essentially the same tractor you have. I do not have the backhoe but I do have the 60" belly mower and routinely put a 500lb flail mower on the back. I installed 2" Bro-Tek aluminum spacers last year and have added another 100 hours of mowing...

    L2501 - What can't it do...

A JD 710 is a significantly larger, heavier, and more powerful machine than your 2501. I'm quite surprised it couldn't move the bales but you could. Perhaps his old JD has some mechanical or hydraulic issues. That said, the 2501 is a pretty good machine. The pricing is good, because it falls...

    Where is Your Tractor Kept?

Mine is kept in a "tractor port" which consists of treated 4x4 posts supporting 2x6 roof rafters, fully shingled, with a decent pitch. The floor is sure-pac and gravel. My garage is not large enough for any of my tractors except maybe my B2920.

    Chip DPF Delete Discussion

Many of you don't like the problems and inconveniences of a DPF, but don't fully understand how an exhaust after-treatment system works. You cannot just remove the DPF can or hollow it out. If nothing else, you would have no muffler. There are both delta pressure sensors pre and post DPF...

L2501 owners, What RPM's do you run?

I don't have a 2501 but I have a B2920, L4310, and MX4800. My B2920 has a a D1305 1.3L engine fairly similar to the one in the L2501. It has about 500 hours on it, and most of those hours are at wide-open throttle. Aside from increased noise and fuel consumption, don't worry about running at...

Diesel smoke puffs upon acceleration L4310

I believe he’s talking about a modern Powerstroke 6.7...they have the same displacement as a Cummins 6.7. The Ford 6.7 has a DPF as well and won’t smoke.

Diesel smoke puffs upon acceleration L4310

I have a 6.7 too...on my 4th one. Great engines. My new Kubota MX4800 has a DPF and does not smoke either.

Diesel smoke puffs upon acceleration L4310

Well, mines a GST with a foot throttle. The little smoke puffs are most notable with a stab of the foot throttle. I will try the biocide and some injector cleaner. What injector cleaner do y’all recommend?

Diesel smoke puffs upon acceleration L4310

I run my tractor 5 days a week, 5 or 6 hours a day for a month straight and then it sees occasional use for a couple of months, and then it gets run a month straight again. The fuel is pretty fresh that goes into it. Maybe sits in my transfer tank a couple of weeks. Other tractors are being...
