Sorry i got so long.....i also consider Canada and America are pretty close to being 1. But we do have different leaders for sure and it shows.
I have lived in both and have dual citizenship. The two countries are quite far apart politically.

I think oil prices are up because the central banks kept interest rates to low for too long and printed far too much money, along with ill timed tax cuts, and helicopter money because of the 2008 recession and then Covid . Most commodity's are up Lumber and steel have quadrupled and Silver has doubled. Trillions of dollars have been pumped into the banking system and the billionaire class and that money does not make work it buys assets. which translate into real estate, stock market and commodity inflation.

This chart shows the effect of Covid in March 2020 US money supply M1

this chart show the rig count was decreasing because of the nature of fracking wells in 2019 but Covid in March of 2020 when oil prices went negative really dropped the rig count. It has been building since then and I think this is the same with all commodities. The price of commodity's will drive more mining and eventually the price will level out.

well they're BOTH ruining our countries , so not that much different !! sad really.
at least south of the 49th , your gas/diesel is waaaay cheaper AND you get credits for 'off oil' stuff.
The taxes at the pumps are so obscene, the legal postings of them ON the pumps , is longer enforced.

True cost for a 'grid tied 10Kw solar system is about $30,000 here in Ontario, would have to lookup the current scam from Ontario Hydro, but it wasn't worth it 10,15,20 years ago
I dont disagree. Thats about the same as here. The tax at pumps is also obscene here.
Hybrids and Electric cars get extra tax for plates so you still pay a years worth of those taxes. Here theres a slogan of the current administration " build it back better " id be happy with put it back the way you got it.

well said......to simplify my thoughts, I think if Canada and the Us stood together more than they have they could utilize their energy reserves much better. My entire life I have heard about we depend on foreign oil and energy. I don't understand why. The Keystone pipeline, the offshore assets here in Texas and many many other areas to drill. Sad reality is China gave the US lots of money for trade. In the 1970's made in CHINA was not a thing. Made in Japan was. Since we rebuilt them for 30 years.
The other thing I remind people of is the USA is not the world. Global Warming is GLOBAL not just here if it is at all. Somehow if the USA goes all electric it will solve it though. Then you say ok...how do we produce electric to charge my new electric car at home ? COAL & NATURAL GAS. so what did we solve ? Makes no sense to me. Your chart shows CONTROL OPEC used to do that still do probably. Knowing that do you think they wont control the price of electricity the same way ? not yet but they will. They would shut down new Solar or Wind to keep their profits up.

I will support what built everything we have. Oil and I am mad we buy what we have and give leverage to people like Putin.

1 last thing do people from everywhere want electric vehicle's ? In 2020 I bought a new Fat Boy Harley. The salesman took a Livewire for 2021 prototype out with me for my test ride. He invited me to try it saying its the most fun bike ever. I did try it out. fantastic acceleration but so quiet it seemed odd.
here is an article how people never bought them. I follow Cycletrader.com for deals and see these things at other dealers with 20 hours on them for 10 grand less than new. In other words they are being dumped for a loss.

2021 they sold 387 bikes. Now talking about selling that off to another company. I don't think it was the charging issue. No one liked them, around here at night you'd catch a deer easily. People like the engine sound. Number 1 mod on cars & bikes is the exhaust sound.

I don't know what you all are complaining about? Haven't you heard? US Congress to the rescue with a NEW "energy rebate stimulus".

article here: https://dailycaller.com/2022/03/24/democrats-gas-prices-energy-rebate-stimulus-checks/

"A group of House Democrats proposed a bill last Thursday that would send energy rebate stimulus checks to American consumers amid the global energy crisis.

Under the so-called Gas Rebate Act, consumers would receive $100 per month, and another $100 for each dependent, throughout the remainder of 2022 for any month where the national price of gasoline is above $4 a gallon, according to Democratic California Rep. Mike Thompson, who sponsored the bill alongside fellow Reps. John Larson and Lauren Underwood."

$100/person/month...and you can keep adding for your dependents.

How lovely.

Would rather give us money than open up drilling again. My point all along....AGENDA of electric vehicles to justify all the spending to build infrastructure etc...

I tried explaining that to an EX-friend of mine before the election...he didn't get it.

No problem, I just got my tax bill. Another 15K on top of the quarterly estimated taxes I've already paid this year. and that's in addition to what they've already taken out of paychecks. I really do have to question why the FK I still work.

maybe I'll just stop paying taxes...I'll just tell them to think of it as stealing $900 worth of chit from a store...everyday. They can't arrest me for that right?

I digress...

Let’s just get it over with, flood the electric car market. Order them up, no matter the side. Push your local representatives for full electric public works vehicles. Demand all Federal government vehicles are full electric. Let’s just see what happens 🤷‍♂️

Surely they can provide this safely and effectively

so they want ev's

in my case i own my car (gas burner) it gets 30 mpg. No payment.

so they want me to ditch it and buy an ev

Ok if my car get 30mpg and i drive 15,000 miles a year (which is, more or less average for most folks), at $4.00/gal that's about about $2000 in fuel cost.

If I have to spend $50,000 on a new EV which is quite easy to do, it would take 25 YEARS to pay for itself in the lack of fuel usage. And, that's not counting repairs...the warranty doesn't last forever, and it also doesn't fix everything when it is in warranty period.

In my case it does not make financial sense. Or...is the hiked price of fuel a (or "the") motivation to force you to buy EV?

Someone mentioned how do you generate electricity (coal and nat gas). Not here. Nat gas plants are almost all shut down around here due to government regulation. Coal is on it's way out too actually the coal plants were converted to gas a while back and now that gas has skyrocketed the price of electricity has too. Water (hydro) and nuke and in a very small percentage, solar, are king here.

Solar is not the answer for a lot of reasons
hydro requires special sets of circumstances for a dam to be built so it'll work
nuke? LOL. We all know the issues there--or do we? My friend is a physicist at the local nuke plant and I hear all about things. he gets paid very well, but also says his lifespan will be shorter than anyone else that works outside the plant...cancers run rampant among workers exposed to even low levels. My other friend (41) is on disability...leukemia...worked from 18 til 37 at the nuke plant. No family history. They said probably exposure. Chemist at the nuclear level. 2 other friends work the outage in there, no problems with them but they are younger. Nobody really fully understands it all other than you have 20 minutes (or whatever) to get in there, get your stuff done, and get out--then they rotate another crew in for another 20 minutes, repeat until the job is done. different areas and different tasks have different times of exposure, some are 4 hours, some 20 min, some a full 8 hr shift is fine.
Wind? Wind only blows here in March when I want to go fishing and no other time. Unless there's a storm.
ade a good living doing it while it was here. Ex GF retired on gas lease royalties on her 1200 acres.

no form of energy is clean or problem free. And this also applies to cars.

Hydrogen is promising but expensive to make. Right now it costs more to make it than it produces. Same for nuke fusion.

All tax payer vehicles need to be full electric right now. Lead by example…
