so they want ev's
in my case i own my car (gas burner) it gets 30 mpg. No payment.
so they want me to ditch it and buy an ev
Ok if my car get 30mpg and i drive 15,000 miles a year (which is, more or less average for most folks), at $4.00/gal that's about about $2000 in fuel cost.
If I have to spend $50,000 on a new EV which is quite easy to do, it would take 25 YEARS to pay for itself in the lack of fuel usage. And, that's not counting repairs...the warranty doesn't last forever, and it also doesn't fix everything when it is in warranty period.
In my case it does not make financial sense. Or...is the hiked price of fuel a (or "the") motivation to force you to buy EV?
Someone mentioned how do you generate electricity (coal and nat gas). Not here. Nat gas plants are almost all shut down around here due to government regulation. Coal is on it's way out too actually the coal plants were converted to gas a while back and now that gas has skyrocketed the price of electricity has too. Water (hydro) and nuke and in a very small percentage, solar, are king here.
Solar is not the answer for a lot of reasons
hydro requires special sets of circumstances for a dam to be built so it'll work
nuke? LOL. We all know the issues there--or do we? My friend is a physicist at the local nuke plant and I hear all about things. he gets paid very well, but also says his lifespan will be shorter than anyone else that works outside the plant...cancers run rampant among workers exposed to even low levels. My other friend (41) is on disability...leukemia...worked from 18 til 37 at the nuke plant. No family history. They said probably exposure. Chemist at the nuclear level. 2 other friends work the outage in there, no problems with them but they are younger. Nobody really fully understands it all other than you have 20 minutes (or whatever) to get in there, get your stuff done, and get out--then they rotate another crew in for another 20 minutes, repeat until the job is done. different areas and different tasks have different times of exposure, some are 4 hours, some 20 min, some a full 8 hr shift is fine.
Wind? Wind only blows here in March when I want to go fishing and no other time. Unless there's a storm.
ade a good living doing it while it was here. Ex GF retired on gas lease royalties on her 1200 acres.
no form of energy is clean or problem free. And this also applies to cars.
Hydrogen is promising but expensive to make. Right now it costs more to make it than it produces. Same for nuke fusion.
