A clear palstic tube connects the gauge to the engine block. Yes, you can remove the sender from the block with the engine off without losing any oil. If you install a mechanical gauge, make sure that you protect that tube. You don't want it rubbing on anything or getting snagged by anything ----

Well, hard telling but I doubt you have any other problems. All I can say for sure is that simple shoe replacement solved all my problems.

On older models, the drain plugs were painted orange ---- look for color differences.

I don't know if this will help or not, but, for the what it's worth column, Kubota began using Bright Orange II in 1992.

Might also want to check your relief valve. If it relieves continuously, it'll heat the fluid up. Pressure might be set too low.

What have you checked? Do you have fresh diesel fuel? Do you have a clean air filter? Do you have good fuel flow at your fuel filter? Clean fuel filter? Do you have good fuel flow up to your injection pump? Do your glow plugs work? You need to fill in a few more more blanks here ------------------

You need hydraulic couplers on the back of your tractor. I'm guessing you don't have them?? You can use the hydraulic line that connects to the backhoe as a pressure source. With the backhoe off, that line should now just be dumping back into the transmission?? You'll need to plumb that line...

There may be a site where you can download a WSM but I don't know of any legit site. My advice --- if that WSM on E-Bay is an original Kubota WSM and it's in good shape, buy it.

Remove the fan belt and then try the alternator and water pump by hand. I'll wager one of them is frozen up and the smell was the fan belt burning.

I'm guessing that you bought it "not running"? What did the prior owner tell you? At $500 it must have been sold "with issues" ---
