By shear luck I found this site and just now registered.

I have a 1980 25 HP L245DT with a front-end loader with about 900 hours on it. I have owned it for 20 years, use it for dragging a horse arena and minor items. It has been a GREAT tractor! I maintain it regularly (I do the minor stuff and if I can't do it, as a last resort, I take it to a shop that works on Kubota's to do the major items - only brought it in once).

Problem: There appears to be a strain on the hydraulic gear pump, because when I drop the bucket down, the engine runs better (has a boost of power). That lasts for about 4 seconds and then it bogs down again. This strain causes the hydraulic fluid to overheat (anything that has the fluid in it gets super hot). Plus the engine eventually overheats and I have to then cool it off. Does anyone out there know what might cause this problem? Thank you!

Welcome to the club. How long has it been sense you have changed the hydraulic oil and cleaned or changed the filter. That's the first question.

Filter was changed 2.5 years ago and the hydraulic fluid maybe 6 years ago. You're right, that's a good place to start. thx
