I had the same thing with my containers ... I put a quart of kerosene in with a cotton rag and sloshed it around. I really was surprised at how well it worked. Dumped mine in the waste oil though... Free heat!!

I've just been using my empty 5gal UDT jugs with a hand siphon pump (kerosene heater style). Simple and works great.

That spring probably isn't necessary that it's an OE part. I'd be off to the hardware store for something that fits the shaft. Then cut it to length just so it's keeping tension on the cartridge.
