Kubota M4500DT pics and where to source parts

Thanks for the write-up. Interesting to see what people are doing with these older machines, and the numbers may come in handy.

    Calling Someca K28 mower owners...

Thanks for replying BigG. Interesting point, no I can't see a breather or remote piped breather and no reference to a breather in the ops or parts manuals. After reading your comments I wondered if the breather had been integral with the filler cap. The previous owner (who replaced the...

    Calling Someca K28 mower owners...

I was given a K28 hay mower recently and from the little work I've done with it, it works well, looks mostly in original condition. It's a 4 disc 3 ph mounted job, about 5' cutting width, from the 70's. One thing I need help with: what the oil level should be in the gearbox. According to the...

    Filter cross reference

If a $6 filter is as good as a $38 filter, I guess a $2 filter is also in the running. Be aware that cross reference charts usually only show what filter will physically fit - there's no guarantee it will provide the same or better filtering performance than the OEM. Yes you are paying for the...

The perkins diesel mystery may be solved after years.

English gallons, or US gallons? One is 11.4 litres, the other is 9.5 litres... if the manual doesn't specify which units I'd look for cross checking - perhaps the manual also specifies the capacity in litres? With or without oil filter change etc?

    B7100 seized.

Glad to hear that it wasn't worse. Can you tell if the clutch disc is genuine Kubota?

    Trench Sod Remover?

Yes that might work. Probably depends on the amount of downward pressure, sharpness of the cutter, how many hours use you need to get out of it, how hard the soil is. I was thinking of a sharp disc (actually a pair) because that seems to be the universal ag solution to cutting sod, so would...

    Trench Sod Remover?

I've had a bit of a play with something like that and didn't have the time to get a good solution. However, based on my experiments a coulter wheel (? I think that's what they call them... basically a sharp free-rotating disc - Flip would know the correct terminology), is needed for cutting...

How about a bucket level rod?

While we're waiting for the greatest minds (y) , can I offer this: what I use is a something (a metal bar, plate, piece of rod, whatever would do) attached to the bucket that's parallel to the bottom of the bucket and visible by the driver. Lowest cost ever. Currently I'm using a couple of...

The MX5800 manual states 9.9 quarts for oil capacity with oil fillet change is 2 quarts overfilled

Seems to be a problem more common than I would have thought - M4500 WSM has bad quantities - front diff case 70% overfull, axle cases 30% underfull, bevel gear cases 25% underfull, I always go by the level indicator.

    Paint codes

The BX would look pretty lethal in matt black... no need to obsess about the orange... PLUS it would be easily identifiable if someone decided to steal it. (Can you get the heat-reflecting black in Africa? It's available in NZ) Or camo... now there's a thought.

    Paint codes

The paint guy said there's no equivalent between the paint colour they created from my samples (orange from underside of fuel filler flap, blue from underside of PTO cover) and RAL colourspace. RAL has a limited range. Looking at the Wikipedia entry for RAL, the RAL numbers 2175 and 5150 are...

    40 ft Span Bridge

Good point. Bridges with long slender beams can suffer catastropic failure by buckling, which usually happens without warning. Simple beam calculations are insufficient for that sort of application, so it was good to hear that PoTreeBoy used more than back of envelope calcs :-) I'd love to...

    40 ft Span Bridge

Hard to believe that it was back of envelope design because looking at the cross-bracing I'm guessing that you took into account lateral-torsional buckling? Otherwise, how did you decide on the design of the cross-bracing? I'm really impressed by what you have done.

    Paint codes

I'm getting a local industrial/automotive paint supplier to match existing unfaded pre-89 orange and blue. I'll ask if/how closely it would match RAL 2175 and 5150 - expect to do this early next week.

Quick question - the dreaded delivery valve holder leak - Bosch K-type injector pump

Hi Chris - the correct valve and spring orientation that the spring (2) should be above the valve (3) as shown in the image with the yellow arrow, not the other way around and it's pretty obvious when you remove the delivery valve holder. I know you didn't ask about it, but the big deal is, as...

Hang on, the one bright spot during the marathon thread-on-the-subject-we-must-not-mention was when you said the Kimber pulled your pants down. Did you mean the Smith?

    kubota m4900 hp increase

According to Tractordata.com, they both have a 5 cyl 2.7L F2803 engine, and the M4700 coolant capacity = 6.2 L, M5700 = 8.0 L so looks like cooling may be in the frame somewhere.... :) If jbw111 you operate tractor in low ambient temps and keep the cooling system in top condition, and instead...
