Strange. We have a JD 2020 made in 1968 with one. Other than a new fuel tank and PTO rebuild never had a single problem with the tractor. Engine purrs like a kitten.

If you are doing a lot of loader work I would hold out for a HST. I do a good bit of loader work and I can tell you it is like night and day from my other gear tractor. I have a similar setup and I use a Bush Hog finish mower which works great.

I do not believe they do, or at least mine doesn't -- L4400. My manual makes no mention of brake lights. Has a section on the hazard lights and turn signals, only.

I can answer one of your questions... Yes, from past posts about hydraulic fluid--and things not working when adding something different, it seems that it does make a big difference. Probably worth changing it, maybe your problem will be solved. If not, worse case you have new fluid.

As @19thSF states.... This site will tell you the year your engine was built. BUT you need the ENGINE SN not any of the others. The manual will tell you where to find it. That's about as close as your going to get as stated above...

Okay. So we tried all we could from above and finally he had enough and took it to the Deere dealer. Problem was as as @D2Cat suspected--2 problems. Turns out the fuel tank was rusted badly and clogging. $600 fix--tractor cost $4,800 when new!!! Thanks for the help.

That's a great sorry and collection. The only experience I have with outboards was when I had a fishing boat with an Optimax that spent more time in the shop than the water.

Not sure about that. The only way I have figured is the engine. That's the only serial numbers I see on their site that identifies a year.

How do you find something like this out by by 'accident'? Did you forget to take off your panty hose before you went hunting?

I know its brand new and you don't want to start mods but if this is really going to be a problem maybe there is a way to modify the seat backward for more room. Maybe something as simple as attaching the seat to the seat adjustment mechanism further back. I would think that something like...
