I'll check the range of motion on mine and get back to you. It appears yours currently moves slightly in excess of 90°, which would be somewhat less than mine. Fully curled I can toss tools and things in it when it is lowered and they don't fall out. It dumps so the bottom of the bucket goes beyond perpendicular to the ground.

Here is the information on my bucket. I'm guessing it is similar to most others. The tractor was parked on my bridge, one place that's very level. The bottom of the bucket and surface where the level was clipped onto are perpendicular.

Don't know why I didn't zero the level instead of starting at 1°. Duh. Anyway, fully rolled forward the bottom plane of the bucket went to 7.5° beyond vertical when the stops were hit. When curled back, it went 53.3° past horizontal. These readings were taken with the bucket fairly low, and should be close to reality. Since the arms weren't at exactly the same height for the three readings, there could be an error of a degree or two due to the arms swinging in an arc.

Please let me know if there are any other measurements or pictures you'd like.

I think those links could give a greater range of motion, but the TL720 loader specs on my L35 are +45° and -45°, less than Chim is quoting. The big advantage is the cylinders maintain a greater mechanical advantage at the travel extremes, since their force vectors stay at a larger radius from the pins. This reduces the compression on the rods when back dragging with the edge of the bucket, which we all know is a no-no .

P.S. I think my travel exceeds 90°, although I'm not there to check it. Down low, the bottom of the bucket will go vertical and will roll back far enough past horizontal so that the spoils don't fall out. The spec is with the arms raised and by then the leveller has started limiting the bucket from fully curling.

I think you're planning on building your own bucket so this would't matter, but if you're going to be using commercial attachments it will. That's the angle of the attachment plate when the bucket bottom is horizontal. Typically, over here, that angle is somewhat less than 90°, I think. If you deviate very far, some things won't work as intended.

If I understand your description, that gives a total range of motion between curl and dump of 150.5 degrees ?

Another question - can you tell me the thickness of the sheet steel used for the body o of your bucket ?

Thanks Hugo. I did consider those extra linkages and even self leveling, but struggled to come up with something I was happy with for all of the extra effort. I also remembered a comment in the back of my mind from someone on here recommending to try to keep the weight down as it's a small tractor. Since I was already adding weight with a SSQA, I shelved the rest as too complicated for me.

You're right, I will be building my own bucket, maybe a grapple, probably also light duty forks, don't know what else.

I've just measured the range of motion for a LA344 (which is roughly what I'm copying) from screenshots from a video I found on YouTube. Best I can estimate it moves about 140 degrees from full curl to full dump with no additional linkages.

I've currently got a little over 90 degrees and I don't think it will take much movement of the hole at the bottom end of the dump cylinder to increase this. It won't be hard to change, and also easy to change back again if I don't like it.

PS - I used to model things like this in Solidworks which takes out a good bit of the guesswork, but since struggling pretty bad with PTSD for several years from 25 years as a volunteer fire firefighter here, a lot of things seem way more complicated than they used to be. I've now resorted to hand sketches and plywood or cardboard models, which often means more grinding and re-welding later, but it's the best I can do.

Paul, your drawing accurately reflects what I found. I'll see if I can determine the material thickness tomorrow. There are areas where it is reinforced / thickened and I'll get some pictures of that.

Paul, the bucket on my L4240 measured 3/16" thick steel for the bucket and its ends. Where the top of the bucket is rolled back it joins a 3/8" thick bent piece that accepts the top of the tractor's QA pad and reinforcement of the back of the bucket. See pics 1 & 7. Most of this is 3/8". That's where the slotted angle is fastened. Pic 7 was taken before adding the hitch receiver and remotely operated latches.

The bucket ends have a piece of 1/4" x2-1/2" reinforcement on the leading edges - see Pic 1.

The bottom corners of the bucket are pretty robust and have a chisel-shaped extension in Pic 5.

It doesn't have much extra protection on the bottom. See picture 4 below.

Yea your geometry is off.
Your not getting enough roll back or enough roll over.
This could be caused by bracket location or simply by not enough stroke on the dump cylinder.
I can tell you your too close on the roll pivot point and the roll cylinder attachment point.

Interesting choice using one cylinder, you'll lose a lot of roll back / breakout strength doing that.

Thanks for your comments. I reckon if it works for Kubota, maybe it can work for me too.

PS - it's the same 2.5" x 8" dump cylinder spec as used in the Kubota LA344. As far as losing strength goes....it's only a small tractor and I'm not planning on moving mountains with it.

PPS - as far as being "too close on the....", the geometry is very close to the LA344, as close as I could get first go using plywood and cardboard models, but yes, obviously it's a little different. I don't see why I won't get closer to the LA344 spec with some small movement of holes.

If you haven't made your SSQA yet, you could consider instead doing the older proprietary Kubota quick attach. I only say this since it seems like all the implements you're going to use you're going to fabricate anyway. The Kubota quick attach is quite a bit lighter than an SSQA setup. I ended up putting one on my B2601 since in New Zealand basically nobody has SSQA, and I would have had to special order it. It was just as easy to order the older quick attach, and it meant I didn't have to modify my bucket.
