Some of the older B series had the thread in studs. If thats what you have just thread a second nut tight to the first nut on the stud and then back off on the first nut. The stud should come with it.

Ditto what Eric said. Sometimes on my B8200 it will only fully engage after moving forward a bit. The grinding sound doesn't sound like good news.

That's a great idea. On my B8200 I'm occasionally grinding the gears by getting on and off of it while it's running. My only concern would it be worth the hassle of reaching a little farther to change gears? Let us know how it works out for you.
