    Red-Tailed Hawk's Nest

When I get birds in the shop I turn off all the lights, close the window blinds and leave 1 door open to the light. They always find it.

    Stalling Mystery

Just noticed this galstaf. Yup - it was the needles in the tank. Since I drained it and started my new double filtering routine I have had no problems. Pain to figure out what the issue was but a cheap fix in the end. Good luck.

That looks great - given the pace I am likely to learn the how to use the thing I better plan on buying one if I do go that route. I often build bit holders and the like out of wood because that's what I am comfortable with.

Speaking of Coal - it is interesting how many Coal companies make the top 100 stocks list last year. https://www.investors.com/news/best-stocks-2022-oils-stocks-solar-medical-lead-list-of-100-top-stocks-last-year/?src=A00220 Happy New Year!

    1st Real Snow

We quit wintering south about five years ago for a variety of reasons and were surprised the first winter when about 6 or 8 hummers stayed as long as we put feeders out (only the Anna's variety - Rufous is gone long ago - back end of March). In a couple of years we were up to around 20; this...

    1st Real Snow

We got our first real snow and it was a doozy - about a foot. Unusual for around here. Then we lost power - but a pic of feeding time - we have about 30 wintering with us this year.

80 foot trench for propane line

They really push the heat pumps out here - lots of subsidies and press. I like to have options. If the power goes off (something I expect more of in the future with this push to overload the system) the idea of having an alternative source of heat appeals to me. The explosion fear was because...

80 foot trench for propane line

Well, given your endorsement means a lot - much better to hear from someone with first hand experience with a lot of knowledge on the topic. I have shown it to the chief decision maker - she is struggling with the propane idea (might explode!) so that is the first challenge. In truth we may...

80 foot trench for propane line

Thanks for the idea Wolfman - I will have a closer look. The boiler I have is rated for a Gross output @ 135,000 btu/hr. We heat @3500 sq ft and have VERY hard well water (nice to drink, clear as a bell but hard as a rock). While we don't usually get really cold, it very humid. The on...

'"Air/ water is different from hydronic ..." Evil - thanks for the distinction. More things to consider. GeoHorn - Haven't heard of any geothermal here, but can't hurt to ask about it.

80 foot trench for propane line

Well, I really DO love my Back Hoe but the BH abbreviation perhaps shows my lack of social media savvy - my BETTER HALF has a large tub that bubbles and whatever that she soaks the old bones in. If we had access natural gas there would be no issue - but the local utility tells me I need to...

80 foot trench for propane line

Good to know a water heater option exists. While I am sorting through the heating issue I will keep it in mind. Given I had to add a second water heater to fill the BH's big tub I will need to be VERY sure it works well enough to replace them.

80 foot trench for propane line

I did find some interesting info an heat pumps that can plug into and existing boiler systems so that is encouraging. And yes there are incentive programs available to convert here. The question is will it work - sounds like there are limits on how much heat is actually on tap...

80 foot trench for propane line

Evil - the air to water is really the same as the Hydronic system? How does the propane figure in? As a separate back up somehow that is linked to the air to water system? DustyRusty - yup, oil boiler feeding water baseboards. I didn't mention before I also have in-floor radiant heat in the...

80 foot trench for propane line

Evil, thanks - I will take you up on that offer! We are on the Vancouver Island - it's rarely down to 20 F but does get there on occasion. We are VERY humid. Natural gas is not available to us or it would be my choice as I had it for years and liked it. I don't see how heat pumps work with...

80 foot trench for propane line

Thanks for the input - advice arrives tomorrow to outline some options. I did read a little on the tankless heater but need to know more. The heat pump is what gets pushed (and subsidized) around here but I have only seen one that works with a boiler set up and they don't work when it gets cold...
