    Best tires for snow?

I think turf tires plus chains is the best way to go. It gives you the best chain surface to the ground, even with inexpensive ladder chains. Industrial tires with expensive diamond pattern chains work OK to GOOD. I was using 2-link ladder chains with industrials and got by, but most of...

Home made brush hog / grass cutter

It looks great so far! Are you going to use chains or blades? Are you going to fit on a tail wheel?

Chainsaw Carrier/Holder from PVC Pipe for Tractor Mount

Nicely done, and it looks easy to remove when you don't need it. Good job!

    Tire size question

A quick check on tire size ratio: Put the tractor on firm ground, 2WD. Mark the rear tires where they touch the ground. Move ahead one rotation of the rear tires, and mark the front tires where they touch the ground. Back up to the starting point. Put it in 4WD. Move ahead again one revolution...

    Another dumb question?

I've never seen that - is it like a huge zerk fitting?

L5030 GST Dies when shifted forward or reverse

The seat switch should work two ways - it should allow just the PTO with the seat folded up, and everything with the driver pushing the seat down. Sounds like maybe the internal contacts are stuck in the seat-folded-up position. (I don't know if this is even possible...) Depending on what you...

    M6060 front wheel weights

Check your owner's manual. Mine says DON'T put fluid in the front wheels. They don't give a reason, but I'd think it is because of the diminished air cushion when you fill the font tires with fluid. I have a 260 lb front bumper that does a good job countering my brush hog on hills.

l185dt no shifters on the hump

I don't see a gas pedal - it should be on the right deck somewhere. Since the lump on the hump has an oil filter, I wonder if this was an attempt at HSD? I believe there is linkage from the right hand shifter down to the side of the transmission. Does it also connect to the fuel system? To...

    B8200 stopped while running

Looking at the wiring diagram, the alternator is really a dyanmo. The described problem most likely is not the dynamo, but could possibly be in the regulator. Internal parts can short, and represent a very low impedance to ground. You can unplug the regulator and eliminate it. The regulator...

    B8200 stopped while running

If your positive battery cable is getting warm, somewhere it is touching chassis. While checking battery voltage, touch the positive cable to the positive terminal and see if the voltage drops. I'd check the big cable from the battery to the starter, then the smaller one to the fuse panel...

New L4600 with metal in hydraulic fluid

Push for a replacement tractor. At 7 hours, THEY can clean this one up and sell it again as a "demo" for a grand or two off. Shouldn't be your problem. At 50 hours my oil looked new with a few shavings on the magnet. At 250 hours the oil again looks like new. I just changed the filter - a...

Pulled the Trigger Today- L3200DT & Loader

You'll LOVE that tractor!! And at that price its a heck of a good deal. I wouldn't to too anxious to get rid of the 245 - it is worth more than it'll get you. I sold off my L185 and have regretted it - it would be a fun restoration, and there are so many times you want a different implement...

    FEL for L245 Dt

I still have the glossy cut sheet on the 1700 loader, for the L185, 245 & 285. It doesn't list any sub-models. I would swear that my 185 had the same 1200 loader MagKarl mentioned. Anyway, send a PM with your email and I'll scan and email the sheet to you. Does the tractor have an aux...

Anyone build a small trenching tooth for BH?

When you are digging with your back hoe, the relief valves limit the pressure to the cylinders. When you are dragging something through the ground, your pressure limit is the strength of the hoses, cylinders and valve O-rings. I once had the bucket resting in the hole and drove the tractor...

    Small L or Big B?

Looking at the machines and spec's, I think the small B would be a great complement to your L4600F. You will Love 4WD, and the 2 speed PTO. I lived with a L185DT for 35 years, and got by fine with 18 horses - 23 would have been a dream come true. There is a B2320 on Ebay, in Meeker, OK for...

    weight on the front?

I had the loader on my L185DT. The loader weighed 710 lbs with the 48" bucket. The CG with the bucket had to be in front of the tractor. There wasn't power steering, but it all seemed OK as soon as you started moving, even with 400+ lbs payload. Keep the front wheels mounted narrow, and...

    Advise on a 3560HSTC

You are adding about 1200lbs to your L3800HST, taking away 2 hp at the PTO, and asking it to run 2mph faster for top speed. While the AC is running, you'll probably lose another horse. I think you will notice the difference. Whether or not it is an issue is really your call. Why not just put...

    Complete set Wheels/Ind. Tires

The dealer gets a good price for the complete set - surprisingly good! 85Hokie may be right, I don't think the R4s will be that hard on the lawn.
