    Top Head Clearance question

Once you deck a block you can't put it back. If it ran before it will run now if reassembled properly. Besides, something is off in Denmark! You said that (in earlier posts): Measured piston pop-up is .011 Un-crushed new gasket was .043 So all things being kosher the piston to head clearance...

Best Money Spent on a Shop Item?

Hey, is anybody keeping a $ tab on this thread???? How much are we up to outfit a home shop with all the stuff mentioned so far?

Best Money Spent on a Shop Item?

I'll jump back in on this - I really like the plasma cutter idea have thought about that countless times. I have access to all the HD shop stuff (lathe, Bridgeport mill, surface grinder & etc. at the B&L's shop without having to own it so I'm a bit spoiled there. One other thing that is terribly...

Best Money Spent on a Shop Item?

So the other shop thread in the off topic section got me to thinking about all the do-dads I have in the garage. The other day I was using one specific item when it occurred to me that it was one of the best things I'd ever spent money on for the shop. What was it? The auto-darkening welding...

    Quick Kubota

Just goes to show that the desire to compete is universal & you can turn anything into a motorsport. That does give new meaning to the old drag strip phrase "run what ya brung" though.

    L185 connecting rods

Yes, you will have to buy complete rods (new or used). You cannot mix and match rod caps (well you could I suppose if they were really close and you were going to re-size them anyway, but you'd have more than the price of a used connecting rod in them.).

L3250 noisy valves more than a simple lash adjustment

This engine has solid lifters. Hot or cold oil, high or low oil pressure will have little effect on regular valve train noise if the clearances are correct. Valve train noise (significant noise) related to those issues is a hydraulic lifter phenomena. In a diesel I would be careful about getting...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

What did I do to my Kubota today? Checked the antifreeze!

Do you always want something at no cost?....

Yeah, I saw that story. Takes a lot of gall to attempt that but like others said, the retailer should've said you're out of your mind lady, take it back home. I fault the stores for creating this mindset over the years. It's a symptom of not having any good sense. Granted, I'd never try that...

B1700 run upside down, in water.

What D T said. 10 seconds upside down probably not long enough without oil to hurt anything unless it was running wide open. Even then probably enough in the galleys and crank passages to lube it under no-load conditions. Significant oil in the cyls in that time? Not likely Water? Probably not...

    Reversible turn plow

Kuhn still makes them. 2-14, 2-16 and larger. Recommends 60 HP (it's probably mostly a weight thing). Many of the OEM's made those type of plow. What you are really searching for is a "rollover" plow. Might find a decent old one at a farm equipment salvage yard or somewhere like that. I'm kind...

    Small Engine question

So a ring set for that is pretty cheap - +/- $12. If you replace them there is usually a top and bottom to the rings. Get them in upside down and it'll really suck oil! Piston - The only place a piston is supposed to be round is at the top/to the bottom of the oil rings. From there down they are...

    What Is On Your Drawbar?

What's on my drawbar? Uhmmm. Nothing! The M4500 came with a clevis style drawbar and a factory pin to fit. ;) Yes.... I still have the original pin, but rarely use it except for tow straps or chains. It's too big for most of my implement tongues.

    No fire

Make sure you didn't accidentally knock the starter solenoid wire loose while changing/cleaning cables. It is the small diameter wire that either p[lugs on a spade terminal or has a ring end that attaches with a little nut on the solenoid.. To check function use a volt meter or test light to...

    Too cold to start

It was a Wallyworld Everstart 27DC which is a marine/deep cycle battery. 750 MCA which makes it about 660 CCA (but with a fairly long drawdown). The 27DC was out of stock this morning so I got the 29DC @ 850 MCA. It is a little bit bigger which makes it a tight fit (has to be exactly centered in...

    Too cold to start

Me too. 0F here today early (-18C). Definitely a battery for me for the M4500. Not complaining, first time in 7 years that battery hasn't started the tractor. Think i'll buy another just like it.

    friction modifiers.

Interesting question. I use Shaeffer's Moly Oil (Synthetic Blend) in my Honda ST1100 which of course has wet clutches. I called the company before starting to use it in the bike probably 12 years ago now and they said no problem. FWIW Honda used to sell a moly oil too (maybe still does) and I...

    loses power after 15 minutes

Last time I had a problem on my M4500 like that it was gas in the fuel. Not enough to detonate/ping/rattle etc. But it had no power, seemed to idle ok, wouldn't rev up etc. Ran smooth enough but wouldn't pull itself up a hill when hot. Give it the smell test.... it doesn't take much to cause a...

    Turnbuckles

I use a 50-50 mix of chainsaw bar oil and tube grease. My adjusters on the M4500 are closed in the center so the threads in the adjuster sleeve aren't exposed. dust is only a problem on the exposed thread but I'd rather wipe off a little dust now and then than deal with the rust or sticky parts...
