I need a good Flail mower. Thoughts???

I would guess cost, the slip-clutch is perhaps overkill, except that the WM-54 flails cut forward and want to dig in verses ride-over something like a smaller rock or stump. If the flails cut front-to-back and pulled themselves up-and-over a stump that might be different? I'm new to more than a...

I need a good Flail mower. Thoughts???

The cutting drum is driven by 3 belts that should not slip in order to reduce belt and pulley wear. The drum spins down in approximately seven seconds. From what I remember, selecting the BX tractor's rear PTO locks up the PTO shaft and the shaft does not free-wheel, so IF I'm remembering...

BX Series Land Pride Grooming Mower vs. Belly Mower

I put the MMM on and back off every three weeks and have gotten relatively good at it, though hooking a mower up to a three-point hitch would be much easier. With a MMM I can back up and make three-point turns which at the cabin property is required (a lot), so over-all a MMM saves me a lot of...

    WoodMaxx Order Concerns/Considerations

It's a beast! Review on OTT: https://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/threads/i-need-a-good-flail-mower-thoughts.67845/page-2#post-745118 Update from Summit on cylinder shipping: November. (seriously) No update from Catawba.

I need a good Flail mower. Thoughts???

I've only had a few hours on the WoodMaxx FM-54, so far it's awesome. I have it set all the way up and still scalped a few rocks, the flails are in good shape considering and don't need sharpening despite the impacts. The 6-point metric socket set I own doesn't have a 16mm, and that was an...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

The snatch block is simple and works as @Old_Paint is intending. Technically, from a logging standpoint (and most of us are not loggers, myself included) it's mostly ineffective other than the initial stress placed on the tree, which as pointed out can promote barber chairing, though I should...

    Wheel Spacers…need source advice

I'll remove all the spacers when switching back to the turf tires, hence the air impact to save time. The past weekend tippyness made me want to get at least 2" spacers, now I have options. They arrived today and look great. Thanks go to all the members that contributed posts throughout the...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I did, and it did. But now I have a girlfriend with long blonde hair who's not struggling with weight issues and loves to shoot the .50 cal.

Pfff. If they don't bring home the bacon they don't get to run the farm.

    Wheel Spacers…need source advice

A torque stick is put on the end of an impact gun to limit the amount of force imparted to the nut, getting "close enough" to the torque specification to get the job done. I think the torque tolerance is usually within 10%, which is generally "close enough" given the other factors affecting...

    Wheel Spacers…need source advice

Thank you for the reply. I wound up buying (4) 2" rear Jeep spacers (only) and torque sticks for slightly less than the Bro-Tek 4" spacers. I'll rattle-gun them on and off as needed in similar time as I'm currently doing wheel swaps by hand. Thanks again!

    Diesel Transfer Tank Build

I took (4) five-gallon tanks with me to get off-road diesel as fuel can be hard to get when the computers go down, and in the middle of nowhere they're not exactly reliable. That storage tank looks awfully nice!

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Added a fire extinguisher--thanks for the general recommendation. One note: The quick-release swings the top of the fire extinguisher out, so the mount has to be low enough on release so this clears the ROPS with the ROPS down if your ROPS is used in the down position (such as in the woods), so...

    Wheel Spacers…need source advice

After some BX2370 tippyness I'm thinking of adding 4" aluminum rear wheel spacers for use in the woods with industrial wheels, but I'd like to remove the spacers when I change back to to lawn wheels (which is pretty regularly) for lawn mowing with tight corners. Thoughts on 4" spacers (rear...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

The tailgate comes off, as do the front side panels (which I took off when loading the mower with a fork truck), but this was by far the least effort...and I wanted to get it unloaded and under cover before the rain hit and/or mosques sucked me dry. All was "reasonable" until the ground under...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Hauled the flail mower to the mow zone and unloaded it, almost rolling the tractor in the process. Fortunately I was slowly creeping along and was able to lower the FEL in time. Put the chipper on the back for ballast and plucked the mower off the trailer.

    Trailer for Transporting B2650

DISCLAIMER: I'M NO EXPERT. Personally, I wouldn't modify a trailer from single to dual axle as the frame wouldn't have been designed to carry the extra weight. An "incident" may not be covered by insurance, and if you were an insurance company would you cover someone random person doing a...

    Another PHD Accident

When people don't care about much in life, are in a rush and/or get tired things can go wrong in a hurry. It's not the "one-in-a-million" thing that will get you, it's "one of a million things that can go wrong" that gets you. Thank you for the post and reminder. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

    ROP Bar - Light Mounts

NILIGHT NOTE: The Nilight units I've tested use 60% of the power (Watts) they claim. Figuring their LED driver is inefficient given the heat coming off them it's convenient to assume that "real-world illumination" is about half what their marketing people claim. This is consistent with Chinese...

    FAB Tools

As a note, a rubber hose coming off the compressor will reduce work-hardening and stress fracturing in the copper. I use a compressor-based air dryer purchased used off eBay. Dry air is really, really important when converting matter into energy (plasma)*, otherwise the plasma stream loses...
