What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

    Gas prices

$7? That's a normal price in Europe these days (Belgium is $6.5/gallon, and several countries are more expensive). It sure doesn't keep people from driving though... Those lines and quantity limits remind me of the '70s oil crisis, now almost 50 years ago: same panic, same behavior.

    Who is Bill Gates?

Bill Gates using an argument from ignorance? Goes to show that apart from his money he really is nothing special at all... I'd recommend he reads up a bit on moral philosophy and the origins of morality, paleobiology, astrophysics, evolutionary biology et.al. Fascinating reading, and it would...

Firewood, What do you burn and how long do you season it.

Yes, but a cord is a measure of volume, not weight.

Firewood, What do you burn and how long do you season it.

The biggest forest in the country, just next door, is 50-50 beech and pine, so that's what I use. BTUs per weight of all kinds of wood vary very little (10%?), so to me it's mainly a matter of what I can get the easiest (windfall, clearance,...). Splitting is done by two 21-y.o. nephews who love...

    Daily Chuckle

That may seem funny, but I wonder what happened to the driver, as I had something eerily similar happen to me thirty years ago. I was driving down a 2-lane road going 55, when a 4x8 sheet of half-inch plywood flew off a truck coming from the other direction, also doing 55, and landed just above...

    What’s Your Pucker Factor?

I'll pass and do it diagonally or up-and-down until Kubota brings us a miniature version of the Laverda harvester (now copied by other brands like Deutz-Fahr and NH):

    Ear Candy...

The best part of my life being from Okinawa, she plays the sanshin, but not at the level these girls master the shamisen. This is pure steel guitar, with only three strings and no frets.

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

Here in my little corner of the woods, original 25-kilo Kubota weights are EUR 84 (= $101) apiece, including 21% VAT but without shipping.

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

Well noted (how did I not think of that myself?) - thanks! Instead of welding the plate on the hitch, I can fabricate a U-shape that sticks out behind it, giving me maybe 4-6 inches more. Given my often limited maneuvering space, overall length is an issue.

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

You have a good point, but I don't want constant weight. My soil is very fragile (dirt over slate), so I want to tread lightly whenever possible.

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

Thanks for the link! Looks good, though rather expensive. I can get a decent hitch for the euro-equivalent of $65, and have plenty of scrap steel laying around, so during my next R&R I'll ask my brother to come over with his welder (living on a old 130-ft barge he's become an expert at...

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

It's only for a little BX231 with a limited front loader capacity. I can try and, if needed, get a couple more weights.

Rear ballast idea - good or bad?

I have been thinking of a quick and easy way to make a rear ballast for the BX 231, and came up with this idea, which I submit here for the forum’s opinion. What if I weld a piece of heavy-gauge steel plate (red in the picture) to a 3-point hitch, so I can hang my 4 Kubota suitcase weights (+/-...

    Bx2230 whining

Yes, they whine, always. On mine (BX231) it gets audibly louder, by the way, when the ROPS is up; I'm far from being an audio engineer, but I imagine it has something to do with the sound waves propagating through the steel "hoop" it then forms and making the whole thing resonate??? Do we have...

What do you use for a grill

Bacon wrapped indeed! As for skinning the quail, I'd have to ask my brother (he skinned them at home).

And then there is of course the Laverda solution (now copied by, among others, Deutz-Fahr)

    No tractor, still a Kubota

Just like for the diesel fuel, the compression heat suffices.
