Finished the field, 3-4 acres. The 3800 handled the 6 footer with easy and had power to spare. The only thing I didn't like is the mower sticking out 6" past the rear tires, gotta be careful gettin up close to stuff. This field was flat, but I do mow some hills and have had no problems. Usually...

I went with the 60" pin on bucket on my L3800(LA524), because I don't need to take the bucket off. I can remove the whole FEL in about 5 minutes and do that for mowing. If I need forks, I'll make a set that fits on the bucket.

Mine is a little jerky, but only if raising Very Slowly. In normal use I don't notice it at all. If I hadn't read about the 'jerkiness' on this and another forum, I would have never notice it with my tractor...

The L3800 4WD lever is opposite your L3830. Up is in 4WD. Carl, the trans oil is almost clear. You might need to get it out in good light to see it. Also look at the sight widow while it's running to see if oil is there. The manual and decal are right. Can't believe the tech doesn't know how...

I also prefer gear drive over HST, for everything. Not saying HST is bad, but personally I don't like it. :cool:

Why wont the gear box stay tight? Holes striped? Need new bolts? Lock washers? Lock Tite? And like Hodge said, that is likely your blade problem.

Fine thread will be stronger. I also don't think a 1/16" larger hole will weaken the casting. I have a buddy who let the same bolts get lose on his tractor, he drilled and taped to the next size and has no problems. He does check them regularly now. ;)
