Been working mostly on cleanup, clean out, and rearranging for the past month and a half since Dad passed. Two unoccupied houses, one of which our adult son is planning to make use of in the next few months so that’s deferred some of the routine tasks.
Today started with swapping several pieces of furniture and setting a couple aside for donation. Most were manageable except the lift chair. I wasn’t excited about my wife and I taking that thing down these stairs. Waiting on son next weekend when he’s in town or calling in a favor with a friend… I guess I’m just impatient.
So… One forklift and one solid top plastic pallet from the shed later, the L handled stair duties and carrying the stuff the short distance between houses. (No, that’s not the lift chair, but I already had the forklift out so no reason to not use it.)
The stairs at the other house were much less daunting but still much easier to wrangle the heavy stuff onto a furniture dolly and roll it in. This is the lift chair. Looks benign but that meek facade hides a lift mechanism that puts total weight around 175lb.
In the afternoon changed configuration for mowing amongst the trees in the front field and orchard areas. ROPS down and loader off.
That area was mowed once, maybe twice earlier in the year so it needed mowing but wasn’t too bad. We see it constantly so wife was happy to see it done.
On the other hand, sewer line was last mowed I think in January; not sure exactly. Stuff was getting so high driving the Mule, or even tractor, through it was pretty much driving blind it was so thick and high in some places. Loader back on, ROPS up, and seatbelt on for this mess. I prefer using the loader as a cow catcher when mowing stuff that could hide a 36” log, a boulder that rolled down from above, and small herd of deer.
This area is a good example of what I didn’t like when we rode down to check on the place in the afternoon. Can you see the 30” high manhole riser or the 60” neon pole and flag marking it? Neither can I and running into it with a vehicle of any sort is simply unacceptable.
Last row and back to the house.
