I worked on the driveway Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
I removed the high spot between the tire tracks and put down some stone dust

Been working mostly on cleanup, clean out, and rearranging for the past month and a half since Dad passed. Two unoccupied houses, one of which our adult son is planning to make use of in the next few months so that’s deferred some of the routine tasks.

Today started with swapping several pieces of furniture and setting a couple aside for donation. Most were manageable except the lift chair. I wasn’t excited about my wife and I taking that thing down these stairs. Waiting on son next weekend when he’s in town or calling in a favor with a friend… I guess I’m just impatient.

So… One forklift and one solid top plastic pallet from the shed later, the L handled stair duties and carrying the stuff the short distance between houses. (No, that’s not the lift chair, but I already had the forklift out so no reason to not use it.)

The stairs at the other house were much less daunting but still much easier to wrangle the heavy stuff onto a furniture dolly and roll it in. This is the lift chair. Looks benign but that meek facade hides a lift mechanism that puts total weight around 175lb.

In the afternoon changed configuration for mowing amongst the trees in the front field and orchard areas. ROPS down and loader off.

That area was mowed once, maybe twice earlier in the year so it needed mowing but wasn’t too bad. We see it constantly so wife was happy to see it done.

On the other hand, sewer line was last mowed I think in January; not sure exactly. Stuff was getting so high driving the Mule, or even tractor, through it was pretty much driving blind it was so thick and high in some places. Loader back on, ROPS up, and seatbelt on for this mess. I prefer using the loader as a cow catcher when mowing stuff that could hide a 36” log, a boulder that rolled down from above, and small herd of deer.

This area is a good example of what I didn’t like when we rode down to check on the place in the afternoon. Can you see the 30” high manhole riser or the 60” neon pole and flag marking it? Neither can I and running into it with a vehicle of any sort is simply unacceptable.

Last row and back to the house.

Used the B3200 FEL to help install a new retractable awning on the back of the house. Got it within a foot of the mounts and made installation a snap. Didn’t think about pictures till it was installed and the B back in the garage

Spent a couple hours yesterday mowing my trails, possibly for the last time this year, and mowing an area for a future wildlife pond dig.

Having run the 6 foot Landpride cutter on the L2501 for a season now I can say I am extremely happy with how the tractor handles it. Plenty of cool season grasses along with 3 to 4 foot tall golden rod and mares tail in the new pond area. I cut in medium range without a drop in pto rpm's or feeling like I did not have the HP to get the job done.

The pictures of the pond dig area are deceiving in that its much more bowl shaped than it appears. This pond project will be about 4 times the surface area than my first one. I will still have to either truck in clay or go with sodium bentonite. The sodium bentonite that I used on the first pond was a great success.

Finished up the cart for my chipper. Dismantled stall wood (2x6 tongue and groove) and 300 pound each steel wheel casters (cheap at $9 per). Now I just gotta finish 4 more.

Also put a .50 cal ammo can in place of the factory toolbox. Now I can fit my heavy chain, a few tools and extra pins/clips/bungees. I had to sacrifice the slow moving triangle but it is worth it.

Aren't you in LA? I see one in Vancleave and another in Lucedale, MS. You may also look at NW Florida.
Central, just south of B'ham, in fact less than 20 miles from the geographical center of the state.

None seem to be near, or what I call near. Grew up in LA, not too far from Waynesboro/Lucedale/Meridian. Went to school at 'Bama, moved to B'ham after that. Been in this area for 40 years now, not including a brief 3 year stint in Western Kentucky.

Yesterday, I used the BX to move some dirt to fill in around my steps landing. Luckily, the rain held off until after I was done.
The path to the left of the landing will be reworked and moved to connect to the landing.

Thanks much. Found a few ‘nearby’ sawyers. Will take a closer look on the PC and make a few calls. Might try Faceplant marketplace too. Few are any closer than you are, so might not be cost effective to get em sawn. Shame, cause both the ones that need to come down immediately are at least 24” at the stump and 60’ tall. I have several others that I should probably cull as well because they’re beetle targets with lightning and wind damage. Just don’t want to put em down and create a bigger problem than I already have. There’s probably enough for all the rough lumber I need for the lean-to and then some.
If you don’t find what you are looking for you may find a smaller mill that can saw for you if you can get it to them.

Or invest in some chainsaw milling equipment and saw them with s rip chain and longest bar your chain saw can drive. Somewhat slow but your time is “free” and can be fit into your own schedule.

Granberg is one brand that comes to mind

It is good for shed boards and nearly like finished lumber if you don’t rush.

Took a few large, dead trees down saturday in the friggin heat. At least the ground was dry so I could get the logs/brush out with the tractor and forks. Did some "stumpin" in prep for sunday grinding. Cutting large stumps is getting to be quite a chore.

Today. Not quite as hot and we had some cloud cover. Ground 7 stumps. 6 oaks, 1 ash. Here's just a few pics. Done around 3 pm, then it was cleanup time for the grinder and tractor.

I worked on about 1/4 mile of our private road that we share with 11 others. We had a hard rain last night and it washed one of the hills pretty bad. Also had to work on our driveway a little.

I completed the repair of my underground camera cables in the woods today. Used the stump bucket to move some large rocks over the area so the next time I get the urge to rip the ground with the box blade I will hopefully leave this section alone.
It's true - its a lot less fun doing it the second time. . .

also washed it - its been quite a while and the stone dust from moving the landscape stone mulch was everywhere. Good thing I did, I found a puddle of hydraulic oil under the 3pt. Locking nut on one of the fittings for top link cylinder had backed off, a lot. Not sure how much oil I lost in the woods. . .

Finally greased the fel - less than 10hrs but that's all I have been using the tractor for. It's like an enema, it may not help but it can't hurt.

Those are some solid looking steps. You must be really good at cutting stair stringers. :p

Discovered that if you take the loader off the L4060 and it is uneven, it does NOT go back on! Trying to get it on it pushed forward making it even MORE uneven. I finally had to go get the B2410 out and lift and drag it onto even ground and THEN was able to get it hooked up.

Eventful day yesterday was. First, simple filter change turned into an oil bath, Great for C3PO, bad for me and my garage floor. The dump pan caught majority of it, but the splashes made a mess. The bad part was I had no oil to refill it with, only 2 quarts which was all I thought it would take to replace what wa in the filters, so not expecting to replace 2 gallons!! I had to find the best equivalent to UDT since the dealer was closed and last week was completely out of UDT2 with no date for restock. I found Mystik JT5 to be comparable to UDT so that will work in the interim.

My B2410 has used the John Deere equivalent since I got it, but didn't want to risk it in the L4060, so had to run out and get the mystik.

Cleaned the deck of the FDR2584 and took the blades off to sharpen. When I was done I cleaned off the pollen and mud off of the tractor.

Since I’m using composite deck boards for my steps, the stringers need to be 10” O.C. The double stringers on the ends are necessary because each step will be picture framed.

They’re steel brackets that allow the steps to be fastened from underneath to eliminate visible fasteners from above. There will still be a few topside fasteners on the ends of the picture frame pieces.
