Because of the climate of political correctness now prevailing in America, those of us from Mississippi will no longer be referred to as HILLBILLYS. We ask that you now refer to us as REDNECK-AMERICANS. Thank you. Now if you will excuse me, I got possums to fry.

Now wait a dadgum minute. You south Mississippi boys never earned the right anyway, but having grown up in the Mississippi hill country (Lafayette Co.), I claim Hillbilly. Although, as we were graduating high school and feeling pretty sophisticated, one of our (wiser, as it turned out) classmates did say we were just a bunch of rednecks.

Well those close to the River are referred to as River Rats. One side of the gym chanting River Rats, River Rats and the other side chanting Rednecks, Rednecks.

Immediately East and overlooking The River are the Loess Bluffs which are actually steeper than those around Oxford.

I suppose that we all qualify to call ourselves something. 🤣

I've spent a few nights in Oxford for work. The second time I was there it was supposed to be just for the day. Well that turned into 1.5 days so I had to find a hotel for the night. It happened to be the week that parents were moving students back to college. 😱😱😱😱😱 I spent 45 minutes calling around before I managed to find a room available 😏😏😏😏😏

I was there for what I thought was 3 days but the job got extended. Yup, kicked out of Hampton Inn and had to go scrapping for a room. I ended up at the HI Express for one night and Super 8 for another.

That is when I found out to register for the whole week and then cancel whenever I knew that the job was ending. I have sawmilled in Oxford for 2-3 weeks 2-3 times a year since 2017.

After forty-five years of refusing to ask anyone for their advice, the last potato farmer left in Northern Maine shows up at the feed mill one Monday morning in early Spring.....just after "ice-out".
Seed potatoes?" asks the long-suffering clerk.
"Ahhh-Nope! Ahm switchen over ta chicken farming! Give me 700 chicks," says the old farmer.
"Did you want any brochures? ask the puzzled clerk.

The farmer doesn't even reply, he just starts loading the crates into his truck and drives away along the muddy swirling Aroostook River.

Every Monday for the next four weeks the same farmer returns with the same order, 700 chicks. Each time he loads the crates without a civil word and drives off down river.

Finally, on the sixth Monday, when he orders yet another 700 chicks, the clerk cannot contain himself, "Are you sure you don't have ANY questions about these chicks!?"

The farmer looks at the clerk for the longest time, while chewing on his own tongue......finally saying'....., "Well now I ain't sayins that I do or I don't .......but it seems as I don't rightly know whether I might be planting them chicks too deep......or too close together."

Will be in Gulfport for a week at the end of the month, you got any recommendations on things to do/see, especially for young kids!

I preferred the Hampton as well. Home2suites is a good one as well. It's about $15 a night more and still has an AM breakfast. Doesn't fill up as fast as the others. They still had rooms available during college week when everyone else was booked solid. Rooms were nice and about the size of an small efficiency apartment with small kitchenette, living room area and king sized bed.

It was on the other side of town though.

There's a casino with a kick butt all you can eat crab leg buffet in Waveland MS. And yes you can bring your kids 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 security will watch you like a hawk to make sure you don't take the kids onto the gambling floor. Wife and I took the grand kids. Little sh#ts ratted us out to their parents as soon as we got back home 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Dauphin island Alabama. They have a really nice beach, as well as a fresh fish market as you make the right turn to head down to the public beach parking. Just watch out for Baby jelly fish certain times of the year 😳😳😳😳 They can go through the netting on your swim trunks. 😬😬😬😬 The fish market will boil up your shrimp, taters, and corn on site 👍👍👍👍👍 Just no sitting area to actually eat it there. We popped the tailgate on the truck and ate our lunch in the parking lot, then cleaned up using the beach showers on the boardwalk going out to the public beach.

The best beach in Mississippi is probably Ship Island and the boat leaves out of the Gulf Port harbor. There is a Water Park somewhere in GP and also the Mississippi Aquarium is in GP.
