Does that term apply to those of us in Arkansas as well????Because of the climate of political correctness now prevailing in America, those of us from Mississippi will no longer be referred to as HILLBILLYS. We ask that you now refer to us as REDNECK-AMERICANS. Thank you. Now if you will excuse me, I got possums to fry.
Now wait a dadgum minute. You south Mississippi boys never earned the right anyway, but having grown up in the Mississippi hill country (Lafayette Co.), I claim Hillbilly. Although, as we were graduating high school and feeling pretty sophisticated, one of our (wiser, as it turned out) classmates did say we were just a bunch of rednecks.Because of the climate of political correctness now prevailing in America, those of us from Mississippi will no longer be referred to as HILLBILLYS. I've spent a few nights in Oxford for work. The second time I was there it was supposed to be just for the day. Well that turned into 1.5 days so I had to find a hotel for the night. It happened to be the week that parents were moving students back to college. I spent 45 minutes calling around before I managed to find a room availableWell those close to the River are referred to as River Rats. One side of the gym chanting River Rats, River Rats and the other side chanting Rednecks, Rednecks.
Immediately East and overlooking The River are the Loess Bluffs which are actually steeper than those around Oxford.
I suppose that we all qualify to call ourselves something.
Will be in Gulfport for a week at the end of the month, you got any recommendations on things to do/see, especially for young kids!I was there for what I thought was 3 days but the job got extended. Yup, kicked out of Hampton Inn and had to go scrapping for a room. I ended up at the HI Express for one night and Super 8 for another.
That is when I found out to register for the whole week and then cancel whenever I knew that the job was ending. I have sawmilled in Oxford for 2-3 weeks 2-3 times a year since 2017.

I preferred the Hampton as well. Home2suites is a good one as well. It's about $15 a night more and still has an AM breakfast. Doesn't fill up as fast as the others. They still had rooms available during college week when everyone else was booked solid. Rooms were nice and about the size of an small efficiency apartment with small kitchenette, living room area and king sized bed.I was there for what I thought was 3 days but the job got extended. The best beach in Mississippi is probably Ship Island and the boat leaves out of the Gulf Port harbor. There is a Water Park somewhere in GP and also the Mississippi Aquarium is in GP.Will be in Gulfport for a week at the end of the month, you got any recommendations on things to do/see,
