With this brutal cold that we have coming with a forecast low of 37° Tuesday morning, we had to think about comfort food.

A Pot-O-Chili should serve the purpose well. ;)

We don’t get trick or treaters, but these work for mom and I.

Peanut butter cookies and cream cheese crushed up and dipped in white chocolate that she decorated to look like eye balls.

I had a 5lb chuck roast that needed to be cooked up. I tried something different this time while seasoning a pot roast.

I took a cup of brown gravy and mixed a packet of French onion soup mix in. Then used that on the meat 😁😁😁😁 Slow cooked it all day in the oven at 250. Added the taters and carrots about 3.5 hours before it was finished.

It came out great with really good flavor. The chuck roast just fell apart and was very moist.

Turns out there is something called "election cake". A slice used to be handed out after voting in the olden days. The original was quite a production from the sound of things. A yeast/sourdough cake with lots of butter and dried fruit. After it is baked you pour a CUP of whiskey or other liquor over it! Seems appropriate for the occasion. I'm trying to get geared up to make it. Anyone tried it?
There are a bunch of recipes floating around, Fannie Farmers baking book supposed to have one.

Here is one off internet.

It was a clean up the small stuff last night. 4 slices of bacon, 1.2 head of red cabbage, apple, some home made smoked kobasa and a russet potato. Turned out delicious -

The wife has been hankering some red beans and rice. She was out of town this weekend so I made a Sunday while watching the race. We will dig in to it when she gets home this evening.

Pies..... 45 of them that will go to other homes.

11 Blackberry were done this morning.

Not me but the Mrs.

The Mrs. makes great pies, and I really mean GREAT pies. No wonder I'm a svelte 230 +/-....

For years, she's done a Thanksgiving Pie Sale. ALL proceeds go to a community interest. She gets $12 each. We have about $8-9 into each one. All homemade.

Many request their fruit pies frozen and they will bake them. But she will bake any/all if needed. The pumpkin and pecan have to be baked here.

This year the beneficiary is a Scholarship Fund her former teacher co-worker set up. He passed earlier this year from COVID.

Last year was toward final expenses of a young teenage gal that was murdered by her teenage boyfriend.

Other years have been for our High School Field Scoreboard and a Baseball Field Dugout dedicated to and in memory of other community members.

She’s working on one-crust pies today. Pecan and pumpkin. All will be baked here after filling and then frozen.

I think she said there’s 17 out there on the chest freezer in the garage. Nice and cool out there until they get filled.

I’m making Chicken Riggies today. A very spicy Italian chicken in tomato sauce over rigatoni.

Originated from Utica, New York.

There is only real maple syrup in our house. None of that fake crap. Came back with a couple gallons of cooking grade that my buddy made, when we were up that way, and met up with you and Terry.

Mom will take a syrup order as well if she's headed that way to meet up with her sisters.

If we are in between trips, I'll have it shipped down.

I corrupted the grand kids as well. 😎😎😎😎 They won't eat anything but real syrup as well 🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣😂

I'm at that point now where I'll need to place another order soon.
