What's up with the short bolts?So every year I check torque on BH subframe before installing the BH92. This year (I’m really late) I stripped a bolt just like last year, like WTF. The Mrs says did you check the manual? Yes, please get me a beer (note to self - dumb request!). I pull up the WSM and the torque says 275lbs. like I’ve been doing (actually 250 cause that’s as high as my wrench will go). BINGO! I notice that the bolts I’m stripping are not in the same location as the 275lbs one, so I read a few more pages and discover I’m on the connecting plate and factory is 145-166ft lbs. I slink into the house to get my own beer and order more replacements.
- Don’t assume that “subframe” torque is the same for every bolt.
- Keep mouth shut and get your own beer!

I have a 42" ZTR and it takes me longer to use that than the 60" rear finish mower. The strawberry patch is going to be removed this fall and once I don't have to mow around that, it should cut my mowing time by a minimum of 30-45 minutes.

OEM calls for same bolts both sides and this side has an extra piece in it. They protrude on the other side so I’m assuming it was a cost consideration to use them for either side?

L45 TLB is a nice machine,........ but is not shown on your equipment list.
Per ASTM, 2 threads in the nut will hold the shear strength of the bolt. Not sure I would agree either, but if Kubota can save $.03/bolt……I prefer to see at least 2 threads sticking out of the nut. My experience in MV switchgear has never been pleasant with short bolts.

Repo it? No way. Bought from an individual who had three of them for his landscaping company. Maintenance records and only 1600 hours.
I doubt that it is about the $.03, I also know better than using bolts that don't reach thru the nut. Any engineer that believes that two threads will hold a bolt needs to find employment where he doesn't endanger others.
Yes. I usually buy and sell one a year. Sometimes two. Get a LOT of work done with them and then see if I can get my money back. Sometimes I lose a little, sometimes I make a little. And now I’m tired of it. Keeping this one.

The nice weather this week inspired me to buy Katy a tree puller. I found a reasonably priced Land Honor about 90 miles from home, so I took a road trip. Saturday, I'll deliver it to the farm and we'll try it out. I think I'll have to improvise some hydraulic connections.
It is 323 1/3 of an acre. Just enough to be a nuisance to have to mow around. The birds and critters get to the strawberries before my wife can pick them.

I would grow some sweet corn,......and the coons would eat it the day before I was ready to pick.
I agree with you. But I had that argument more than once with a lot of different manufacturers that paid more for the warranty repairs than a longer bolt would have ever cost them. Just remember, if you want 5 ONLY ways to do something, just ask 5 engineers. I’m a firm believer that if at least one thread isn’t showing, the bolt is too short, and as an engineer, that’s my ONLY way.
