Did some driveway maintenance after I got home from work. (no pix of that) but these two gals were watching me for a while. When I veered off the driveway and drove towards them, EVENTUALLY they decided to run.

Not a chance I could ever get close to them with the car (have tried) but I seem to confuse them with the BX or TG and can sometimes get pretty close !

BTW, from spring through fall we see anywhere from 2-8 deer on a near daily basis.

quick (read: drama free) water service for a guy with a really nice lawn today. Fortunately, I was able to get the new copper service into place by pulling the old galvanized. I was surprised as I didn't think that it would be successful since the old line didn't spin at all with a pipe wrench.

Done. Home by 2pm :)

edit: I'll say it again...the U-27 is an impressive digging machine...not necessary on this job but, overall, I'm impressed with it's capabilities for a 6K lbs machine. If it only had A/C.

Same here...all the ash have been decimated.
Yeah, it's absolutely devastating. When we bought our property it was just park like, trees everywhere. Since then we've had to remove all but 3 ash we were able to treat, but that isn't cheap! (We have 4 left to go out of about 85), a maple has been struck by lightning and then last year a microburst took out half a maple, the maple that was struck the year before, the tops of 4 of my mature pines, and a cedar tree. To say I've been busy with tree work is an understatement! Just stopped by and bought another couple saw chains this morning.

The prior Owner of our property put in a wood fence with insufficient post depth and materials. When we get a heavy thunderstorm and 60 mph winds I usually lose a section of the fence, and that happened this week. My tractor is worth its weight in gold in holding up these sections so I can take them apart.

Bruce, why were the post set so shallow, installer didn't know better or unable to dig deeper? What are you doing to fix it?

Based on the picture, I think he just parks his tractor there and when the next section goes down he buys another tractor. :p

Started clearing a wider path along my South fenceline for more of a fire break and fence maintenance. The ground is like concrete.

Cleaned out the town road ditches by my house after they all washed out or silted in during the torrential rains we have still been getting. No pics as it was pouring rain:eek:

I drove out and back our 6/10ths mile driveway marking trees that need to come down.
We had a lot of wind sheer last Sunday night at 12oclock that took the top out of several and lots of large limbs. I have 15 trees that will be coming down Monday.
Our youngest's son and I are going to cut them up into 10' logs that one of the local saw mills will pickup at no charge and pay me for the logs.
We plan on getting good stone to cover all of the Ozark rocks we drive over every day.
I will cut the tops up for fire wood.

I've been watching for the right trailer for quite some time.

Yesterday I picked up a 2020 year, real decent (single #5,200 axle) 6ft Ɨ 16ft (4ft front, 12ft back) split deck (with shocks) equipment trailer with a triangular junk box on the tongue for a real bargain.
20230803_170639.jpg
It needs a little paint touch-up. Next year I'll change out all the deck boards to Extruded Aluminum, and add Aluminum Side Boards

I grew up helping my dad, doing it all by hand.

Cut it, throw it, stand it, chop it, pick it up, toss it in the truck, get in the truck, grab it, stack it, load the tools, go home, toss it in the wheelbarrow, wheel it, pick it up, stack it.

Clean up the mess.

I do not miss it.
Now I make sure the tank is full and turn up the propane thermostat.

They say it ā€œheats twiceā€, but sometimes itā€™s more like four or five times!

Iā€™ve gotten things fairly mechanized for just being a homeowner burning a few cords per year.

I order log length.
Grab logs with the grapple to move them.
Lift the logs the backhoe to cut with the chainsaw.
Pick up the rounds (by hand) to put through the hydraulic splitter.
Stack directly in to IBC cages.
Move cages with pallet forks for storage.
Move cages with forks directly to the front door to unload on to rack on porch.
Use a little wheeled cart to move firewood in to house wood goes directly off cart in to woodstove).

I try to only let my firewood heat me once. I wait till winter to cut my firewood and the temps are around 32Ā°. Plus I don't have to worry about snakes (I don't like Copper Heads) and bugs.

The installer was the previous property Owner. Most things he did he did himself and were half-a##sd like this. The posts are doug fir untreated and about 1 ft deep. No reason that he couldn't dig deeper other than lazy. So I'm just stacking the pieces as they fall down and will decide later whether to put them back up with new posts or go to a woven wire fence.

Greased the grapple and put the heavy hitch and weights on the three point. Need to do a bit of rooting in the hedge and move a stack of fence posts.
