Every spring we let our Standard Poodles breed and end up with 8-12 puppies for a few weeks. It is a blast for a few weeks and my wife really enjoys the whole experience.

It seems like each year there is always a "hamm" in the bunch. This is Charlie and he has something with camera lenses, he will walk right to one every time.

Forgot this one. Took my dad fly fishing at the local lake for bream early last fall. We weren't catching much, so we decided to call it a day and head back in. There are so many trees in that lake (some submerged just barely) that you might get up against one and have to back up or turn around. That's exactly what happened. One was under the bow and I couldn't go forward, so I turned around to look behind me checking for trees or stumps and thats exactly what I saw (the sun going down over the lake). Snapped a quick picture with the phone. Well we got home, cleaned and ate what we had and called it a day. I got to my place and sat there almost half asleep and decided to look at the pics that were on the phone; since I use it for work a LOT and needed to clean off some more space. That was the one that popped up first. Sent it to my dad (via text) and he had it put on canvas, then submitted it to the photo contest at the county fair, and got a ribbon for it. Unedited by the way; I reckon someone smarter than me could touch it up but I don't know how. Dad asked me if I did anything with it and, well, I ain't smart enough...LOL.

That was the last time dad and I got to go fishing together. He's still around but he can't fish no more because of many health problems. Doubtful he can even get into the boat. And if this elbow of mine don't get feeling better, I won't be able to fish either.

lugbolt - I do like the picture. Really nice colors. On top of that you are a great story teller, and it really adds context to the picture. Which only adds to the appeal of the scene. Thanks for sharing.

Pileated Woodpecker eating on our suet cake Saturday.
One of my favorite birds - - noisy bastards...but cool to watch!

Been within 20 feet of one tearing apart a butternut stump. Threw chips 15 feet while it was hammering on it.

Not a good picture....

A couple of years ago I was working on the new chicken coop in the garage and had the man door open and in walks a Peacock. Never saw her again after that.

NIH is right. Those things are loud as could be, and it ain't just the hammering that's loud. Their call is noisy and borderline obnoxious. I've got a bunch of them hanging around here. In the late spring they get on top of the chimney and hammer on the metal cap. Sometimes I just want to go out there & pick them off but I know better.

Their cousin, the ivory-billed pecker wood was thought to be extinct, but was apparently spotted the next county over. I'm out there all the time and still ain't seen any but have seen plenty of their cousins. They don't like me or something because in that one stretch of swamp they'll almost dive at the boat making all kinds of racket.

Not being critical, only informative. If the bird was a "her" it's a peahen, if it's a male it's a peacock. Their youngens are peachicks.

As many "Pea" chicks that I have hatched in my incubator, I never knew or even thought about it. That and "Peafowl" is the name for the family of birds.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway taken from a friends helicopter. We were flying up to one of his customers locations to take some pictures and I shot this on the way by.
