How about a couple of years of mandatory military service?
I have been saying for the last 35 years ........

EVERY RISING SENIOR has to go to a military 5 week boot camp BEFORE heading into their senior year.

The military would find their brightest and the seniors would tell all the underclassmen what "life" is like.

Yeah - I know - never happen, but I can still dream!

There would be MORE "yes sirs" "no sirs" than you could shake a stick at! :LOL:

While I appreciate the humor I was fortunate that I had a Mom and Dad that taught me those things and lived in a school district that was happy to teach me math, science, reading etc. I was also lucky that my school was equally happy to prepare me for collage or a career in the trades.

Hokie - I can’t disagree, but I was already working 40 hours a week to support myself for vehicle, insurance, repairs, etc.

Granted, 40+++ years ago.

Your Bootcamp would take away my job and ability to earn my keep.

Maybe put those kids on a farm for a few weeks/months……better yet with a “grumpy” supervisor (my Dad)……they’d have a MUCH different perspective from the start.😉

Kids and their toys these days 🤣🤣🤣

Son is itching for it to dry up so we can start working the “farm”, started expanding the gardens last fall. We’ve got our tomatoes and peppers started inside, adding chickens to his”farm” this weekend, been spending last few weeks getting the coop built. Keeps them busy and not in front of the TV!

My youngest got started on the tractor at 10. Now he's the wireless, voice or hand-sign activated remote and that feature is very handy.
