    BX5450 Blower

Yesterday I got to thinking: when was the last time I changed the gear lube ?? Couple of years back I suppose. Well today's a good day to do it. I drain the oil and refill with full synthetic. Then I got to looking at the old oil and it's got something on it (lets call it like pond scum) that...

    Loose steering

When I talked to service manager and told him what my machine was doing, the first thing he said was steering cyl. He never mentioned it could also be this or that. So that's what I went with.

    Loose steering

I was told by a different dealer (who did the work) that it was more cost effective to just replace the cylinder ($207) then rebuild, because the same condition in the cyl. bore would eventually cause the rebuild to exhibit the same symptoms. I'm not sure what a rebuld kit is $$, but the amount...

    BX2230 Steering cyl

Well I borrowed a trailer and hauled it to dealer this morning. Good thing I did. It was the cyl rod seal leaking . Connections were tight. Since they didn't have a replacement steering cyl in stock, they took one off a new BX and installed it on mine. They had no answer as to why a new cyl...

    BX2230 Steering cyl

Thanks for the idea, I'd have never thought of that. The crowfoot wrench is another thing I'll look at. The cyl connections are tucked up in the frame it's hard to even see the left side (looking from the front, right side from seat)

    BX2230 Steering cyl

I had this replaced by a dealer 50mi away week ago.. Found it's leaking on right side connection...where??? can't tell for sure. Anyway, it's impossible for me to get a wrench on fitting to try and tighten more. Service guy @ dealer tells me he has nothing coming my way and has no idea when he...

    Loose steering

Thanks for the reply's fellas, now for the update. After extensive searching in the internet yesterday, I found this problem is somewhat common in the older machines like mine anyway. The culprit appears to be the power steering cylinder O rings go bad due to the finish in the cylinder not being...

    Loose steering

I've had my BX2230 in to service the steering 3 times now and they cannot get it to be sloppy. When I'm using machine the steering tends to wander and last week just quit, no resistance at all for about ten minutes and then it came back. So I had them come and get it. Well, they can't get it to...

Tractor Purchase Not Working Out, Getting Stressed

Wow, I can't believe I've read this whole thread. It could be turned into a made for TV movie on how good intentions go wrong. I don't have the patients you seem to have and would have flushed the toilet on this deal long ago. The overwhelming response to your issues was kill the deal and move...

Thinking about selling my BX snowblower

I replaced the older blower with a new one two years ago. I've still not sold the older blower (decent shape) because I kept the quick hitch. To get them to move it has to be as a pair.

    Robo Call Blocking

My old cell had the option of answering only those in my phone book...really nice. With the new one I have to add -block caller- after they've called.

    Favorite Deer Rifle

This ones hard to call. I've hunted deer with .270, .30/30, 35Rem, and .30-06. But now days I seem to grab the Remington 700 .30-06 more so then the others. It's topped with a Leupold 3X9 Vari-X II When I go big for moose & elk, I'll grab the Winchester Mod 70 in .338 Win Mag also topped with...

    Harbor Freight

Good place to start the grand kids out with cheap tool set. Kids will be kids and if they loose or leave a piece somewhere, no big deal to get replacement. When they get to the point of taking more care of their stuff, I'll up the quality for them.

Had to smoke the sewer system

The water on the other side of the trap seems like a non issue to me. Frankly I've never given it a thought. We have a full blown lower level complete with kitchen, and when our guests leave and it's all been cleaned, I do the vegetable/cooking oil thing. I have to admit though, that about...

Had to smoke the sewer system

I just put it in the trap/drain. It floats on the water. I don't understand your question.

Had to smoke the sewer system

The trick I learned to not let the traps dry out, is put a tablespoon of cooking oil in them. Keeps the air from evaporating the water.
