    Towing HST

Hmmm, never had a need to tow a tractor. I've pull started them, dragged them out of being stuck in the mud, but never 'towed' one except for back to the shed when I couldn't get it started. Is this a common thing and I just never do it?

    Is your FEL bucket level?

Hokie is right. Almost every time the level question comes up it's rear tire pressure.

    Upper link arm vibrating loose.

A good permanent wrench is to get an old box end wrench from your stash, or some garage sale or buy a cheap new one. You cut a groove in the box of the wrench the size of the diameter of the threaded shaft the nut is on. Put the box end on the nut and weld the opening closed, also welding the...

    Heater Question

My father's story is that he used to work logging when he was a teenager and they had gas pony engines to start the logging trucks. These trucks had no power steering and their steering wheels were about 6 feet in diameter because it took that much force to turn the front wheels, geared down of...

    Safety switches

Sorry someone couldn't get to your request sooner. Sometimes it takes a while before a knowledgeable person can address your specific concerns. Generically speaking, I would've done what you did.

BX25 Pat's Quick Change and Top Link

    Doesn't Pat's offer a top link extender?

    BX guys

If you have the BX25D, you can pull that weight with the backhoe with a large metal bar attached to the bucket. My dad changed the rear wheel on the D-17 using it's own backhoe. It was cool to watch, the wheels are filled too! Must weigh about 600lbs!

    When to shut down

I can't let my L3200 idle, it shuts off seconds after I leave the seat, so it's not an option, darned safety switches! On the older iron, it just sits there and idles because it's a pain to restart one of the units, the other it's less of a pain but fuel shutoffs, etc. make it not as car-like...

    Heater Question

OH no... Worst case scenario is grabbing the hair dryer, running down the intake manifold for 20 minutes at 1500watts until you start melting the hair dryer, then with judicious starter fluid (do not use on a newer diesel engine!) and about 18V of starting juice, getting your 1958 hunk of iron...

Use BX25 as residential lawn mower or buy dedicated mower

If you don't actually need the zero turn, the best finishing mower for large property is a multi-gang pull reel setup. You don't need to unhook a darned thing and just tow it around the property. You could use a standard self-propelled walk behind to clean up the few areas that are hard to get...

    Heater Question

To be honest, the best heater is a heated shed/barn. It's better for the tractor all the way around. Nothing to plug in either, and the tractor helps heat the shed/barn at the end of the day after turn off. You also don't need to keep the shed/barn at 72° either, you can keep it at 50° and...

backhoe on my L3800 won't hold hydraulic pressure

Sorry, I'm with Stubbyie here. I run my d-17's backhoe just above idle all the time. It's just slower. The pump doesn't really care, but it's a standard pump, I don't know what the manual says for this pump. It changes with the type of pump. Odd thing is, it's almost as strong there as at...

    Front Wheel cracked rim

You shouldn't need a mill for this work. A straight plate with the holes drilled from a drill press in the right spot would work. Clean the wheel and weld the plate on. I'd make the diameter of the repair plate match the diameter of the hub section it bolts to. You can repair the cracks and...

Can I go 55-60 hours before my forst serveice?

I don't think your tractor is going to turn into a pumpkin (though it is already orange) at 51 hours if that's what you're worried about. The longer you run it with the original filters and such, the more 'junk' builds up so it does more damage and it might start acting funny, so 50hrs is just...

Tractors can be greasy and kinda dirty...

The dried on dishwashing soap is a very old school trick, works. I use disposable gloves when I don't want to get greasy/oily.

Changed the Tranny/Hydraulic Fluid, now it's not operating correctly

Objectivism has its merits (pardon the pun). Mrs. Rand's absolute distain for altruism comes from her brush with near death by Socialism/Communism in her youth. Her altruistic neighbors and friends just got rolled over by people with a greater desire for crushing power. On the actual tractor...

    Starter Magnet Switch/Solenoid

Not sure I would've used solder on an item that could potentially get really hot. A better approach would've been to braze additional material to the contact surface and file it down to the appropriate size. The braze could handle the same temperature as the original material, even low temp...

    Homemade Plow

Just put the loader into float. It won't lift anything. You can also put some adjustable 'shoes' on the sides of the blade when using it as a snow plow, this will keep the blade from trying to bite into the surfaces, especially if on gravel roads. Take the shoes off when using it as a true...

    BX1870 - Won't crank

Any new tractor (car, truck, etc.) can be subject to early teething pains. Modern vehicles (including tractors) are so complex, I wonder how any stay working for more than a year with all of the inexpensive 'parts' they have on them. I'm not excusing Kubota or the dealer here, if they cover...

    New tiller

Well, by the measuring logic they are using, you'd need a minimum of 12" between the flanges to have a PTO that passes muster. Do you have a foot of distance there?
