What side to put the Shear bolt yoke on tractor or gearbox

The shear bolt is an overforce mechanism plain and simple. Its one and only job is to protect downstream components from damage. Typically it is located just ahead of the gearbox as others have stated. If it was positioned at the tractor end, all components downstream will be protected, the...

    Broke my shaft!

When you remove the shear bolt at the gearbox to check for seizure, make sure the snap ring is in place on the gearbox input shaft. It keeps the yoke from sliding off the gearbox shaft when the shear bolt fails preventing it from whipping around and causing damage. As Russell says, for a 5'...

Done with R4 Tires in the SNOW!!!

I find the talk about the ladder style chains falling into the tread interesting. Most people with this problem show a photo of the top of the tire with the ladders down below the lugs. I've ran ladders for decades on R1's with nothing but increased traction to show for it. You see, at the...

Note to self : Don't buy a rental

Perhaps, but I think I'd do pretty well telling the guy he's an idiot in person. The video should be mandatory viewing for everyone buying a new tractor. For the experienced, it has entertainment value. For the inexperienced, it is good to show them what NOT to do with their costly investment...

L4600 HST, wood chipper with a 200lb. flywheel

I think its a good practice to engage any PTO powered implement at minimum engine RPM and then rev it up after the implement begins turning. Whether its the separator on a combine or the deck on my lawn tractor, that's how I do it.

    Honda motor

Anytime you have to run with the choke on you are being starved for fuel somewhere. Take the carb apart, clean thoroughly and retry. Seek out a fuel supplier who carries ethanol-free gas and don't use anything else in your gas powered outdoor equipment. I think puregas.com is the name of one...

    Right of way, easement

Most likely they will be back within a week or so to clean it up. Around here one of the line clearance contractors sent out a slash crew who did just that. I couldn't believe they did what they did and then a few days later the chipper crew came through and cut the logs into pieces that are...

    Portable gas cans

I bought a bunch of the old school gas cans in the late 1900's while preparing for the end of the world. After my uncle died, I got his old school yellow diesel can with the pop off vent lid on the back. My father in law gave me a blue new style diesel can that vents up through the spout but...

    Fall must be here

We have more ladybugs invading our homes than stinkbugs in the fall (fortunately). The Asian ladybugs bite...not very ladylike in my opinion!!

    New member introduction

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have read some posts about 3 point hitches being jerky or erratic. When I'm close to pulling the trigger I will certainly hook up a heavy implement and test it out at the dealer. I'm fortunate to have a Kubota dealer only 3 miles from home.

    New member introduction

Hello everyone! Just signed up tonight and I'm looking forward to being a member here. I don't have a Kubota tractor yet but I have been drooling for one for many years and will soon be approaching the mid-life crisis years. I told my wife (joking of course) that I'm either getting a...
