    traverse drawbar

I believe the original intended use for the flat-style drawbar on the Ford 2N, 8N, 9N tractors was that there was no drawbar on the tractor to begin with. If you wanted to pull a hay wagon, pull type disk harrow, drag, etc. there was nothing to hook it to. Most farm trailers in that era didn't...

Everything was going good until.... Buzzzz

I watched a professional exterminator work a large bald faced hornets nest in my neighbors yard a few years back. This petite young lady hopped out of the truck around 7 or 8 pm...still light outside with a pump-up one gallon tank sprayer. She walks up to the nest just like she owned it and...

    Septic Tank Paranoia Is Over

I inspect the condition of the tank lid when I have mine pumped every 3 years. I have noticed the concrete is crumbling at the outlet baffle and the edges of the access hole in the lid. From my research, it appears that the sewer gases react with the chemicals in concrete which results in...

The dangers of backdragging - broken curl cylinder

I was surfing the Westendorf website and they had a unique method of solving the issue of backdragging with the bucket pointed down. They have a plate that attaches to the back side of the bucket so that you can get a positive rake scraping edge with the bucket level or slightly curled up. I...

Machines with turbos- do you let them idle before shutting down

I think it's a good practice to let any engine driven equipment idle for 5 minutes or so after being worked hard prior to shutting down. Lawn mower, generator, tractor, turbo truck, whatever. Allegedly, the water cooled turbos on my 2011 F150 Ecoboost engine can be shut down immediately after...

The dangers of backdragging - broken curl cylinder

Here's a noteworthy thought...ever look at the curl mechanism on a large wheel loader? They typically have a single large bore cylinder that it coupled to, for lack of a better description, a Z-shaped linkage in such a manner that extending the cylinder is what curls the bucket back and fully...

The dangers of backdragging - broken curl cylinder

The mechanical engineer in me tends to think that any extension beyond 50% would increase the risk of bending and the risk of bending would be greater (either linear or exponential) as you continue to extend beyond 50% and approach 100%.

The dangers of backdragging - broken curl cylinder

Yup. I try to make sure the curl cylinder is no more than 1/2 way extended during back grading and even then I'm careful not to use too much down force on the bucket. Better yet but not as effective is to do the dirt moving with the back of the bucket instead of the lip...but like I said, not...

B series 54" SSQA Bucket on BX?

SSQA is SSQA. Don't see a reason why it wouldn't work.

    Sprayer on 3 pt hitch

Nice sprayers, death and Pepsi. I have a 55 gallon tow behind for my lawn tractor with a 3hp Briggs and Hypro roller pump, 2 boomless nozzles. I love it...looks just like a Demco ag sprayer...all it needs is a mini SMV emblem on the back. I'm not a fan of the 12v electric pumps for lawn...

    Dangerous situation!

Stopped in at my neighborhood Kubota dealer today just to see if they had an M5660 SUHD on the lot...the tractor of my desires. I went out to the lot and there sat one. After climbing up and around it for a few minutes, looking underneath, envisioning me using it, etc., I went inside to see if...

    Back From a Camping Trip

Looks great! I always liked camping in a pop-up but the setup and takedown got really old doing it by myself. Upgraded to a Jayco 23B Hybrid. I can still sleep under canvas like a pop up but have the option of turtling with minimal setup depending on how many people are with me. I usually...

    Advice for stump grinders

The Vermeer SC30TX is about the size of a Toro Dingo walk-behind skid steer and can handle massive stumps. Not trying to sway your decision as I can see your side of the argument with the outrageous rental prices in your area! I thought the $250-$300 for unlimited hours over a 2 day weekend...

    Advice for stump grinders

Rent a Vermeer SC30TX stump cutter for $250-$300 for an entire weekend and do them all. I rented one a year ago and sawed through 18 gallons of gas in the thing...pretty much ran it from 8am till dark Saturday and Sunday. The thing was an impressive beast!!

    F150 Questions

2011 F150 SCREW with the 3.5 EB engine and 6.5' bed. Tows most anything like a beast. I accidentally smoked the rears taking off from a stoplight while towing my travel trailer! Was much more careful after that! Can break the tires loose in 3rd gear under hard acceleration getting onto the...

    trailer tires

I run Maxxis on my travel trailer and so far have had good luck with them. With the TT I change the tires every 6 years simply due to the fact that the rubber compound molecules break down and become weaker with time, making a catastrophic failure more likely. Other factors may hasten this...
