Best way to spread top soil

Thanks. The guy who built my house back in 2002 (he lives up the street now) actually ‘started’ to install a sprinkler system but never finished. I already have a line going out of the basement wall to a distribution box (I think that’s what they call it) that is at the front of the house. He...

Best way to spread top soil

So rather than wait for delivery of my box blade (which is still 6 weeks out) I followed the advice here and spread the dirt using my bucket and a rake. I got a decent layer of top soil down and actually started seeding it today, but I stopped because I had two other ideas I wanted to run by...

I finally found a place with the 70 lb. suitcase weights in stock (about 2 hr from my house). I picked up 8 of them the other day and added them to the heavy hitch.

I called a ‘local’ place about suitcase weights. They have both the 42 lb. and the 70 lb. weights. I know I can fit 8 of them on the heavy hitch, but was wondering how much weight I need to add and wether I should but the 42 or 70 or a mix of both.

You are correct. I had it twisted the wrong way. Thanks for the info on using the tilts. I don’t think so. Mine doesn’t have that offset.

I also got a Heavy Hitch. Now I need some suitcase weights and also a top pin. Neither the QH or the HH came with a top pin.

Ok. I realized a couple of things. Fist the ball joints were painted in place and didn’t move freely. I also attached the small arm on bottom. Looks centered now. As far as moving the top of the hitch to be level, should I use the small pins on the two bottom rails or turn the top rod to level...

Best way to spread top soil

So I got my backhoe off for the first time today and tried to put in my Kubota 3-point hitch and the attach the Speeco Quick Hitch. I cannot get the quick hitch centered. I’m clearly doing something wrong. I had to turn the bar on the right to get the hitch level with the left side, but now...

I need to shave about 1/4” off the wider end that goes under the stabilizers. I tried useing a hand plane/rasp but didn’t get very far. Can I use and electric hand held planer to cut across the three 2x6 bolted together?

Best way to spread top soil

Got my dolly finished today. Well, almost finished. I want to add one more caster to the short section where the bucket goes. I’m hoping to try it out tomorrow. I was going to try it today but one of the grim joints on my left backhoe joystick somehow came undone. I have to fix that so I can...

Is that because of the grain or because of the way it is bowed? good tip on bolting the multiple 2x6 together. I’ll remember that for next time.

Thanks RCW. I found a YouTube video of a farmer who has the came tractor/bh as me and was following his lead. I think he originally got his idea from a video called ‘DIY MyWay’. I really am ‘the worst’ when it comes to working on wood projects.

This shows my bad woodworking that I’m trying to fix. I realize this is just a dolly for a backhoe but I’m using it as an opportunity to try and learn.
