    Friend Wants to Trade....

As I read many folks suggestions not to trade as it was a bad deal, I kept wondering how old and beat up your current machine was. Turns out, it’s a peach! Glad you didn’t do the trade.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I didn’t know about Quick Clot. Come to think of it I’ve forgotten just about all the first aid I learned in Scouts. I’ll add this to my shopping list, thanks. Perhaps along with a chainsaw first aid kit I saw someone else mention on the Forestry Forum. And new fire extinguishers (thanks @mcmxi...

    Equipment fires

Ever since seeing a badly burned car as a kid I’ve carried an extinguisher in my car. Not to save a vehicle, but in hopes I could get a person out. I asked my cousin (a retired firefighter) about the likelihood of the car exploding, and he said next to none, not something to really worry about...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Yeah, thanks. The Rust-oleum is made with phosphoric acid. I wasn’t sure if there is a way to get it in a more concentrated or cheaper way? I’m open to recommendations for next time.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Thanks. Yeah I’m pleased with the way the blade adjusts, I was on the lookout for one like this (I know you’ve commented about tool-less offset adjustment, a lesson I learned hard unbolting the moldboard of a LandPride blade I had). I had an older Servis that was SO HEAVY, sold that for $950 and...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Today I finished cleaning up an old back blade I picked up for $400. I’m fairly sure the thing is as old as I am (from the 80s) and was in fine shape really besides the surface rust, so this was probably not necessary. But it does look better and this will hopefully prolong its life. When...

Difficulty changing gear range on MX5400 HST

I have similar experience on my L4701, and the B2301 I had before that. I think it’s just how they are. I rock the HST pedal back one or two or three times until it takes less pressure on the range lever to move it.

Feedback on used tractor purchase (and in general)

If I were in your shoes, I’d consider a smaller machine. I had a B2301 that sounds like it’s do everything you need, except has no cab. An LX would be nice too! Sure bigger is better, but it tears up the lawn, and is less maneuverable. Really, if you’re anything like me, the small one will...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Wow, big tree! Looks like your cuts from either side lined up very nicely. Did you bore cut it, or just go for the back cut? I know I’m too chicken for the straight in from the back approach, especially on big trees like that. I’m afraid I’ll miss judge the lean and it’ll move back on me, or...

    Land Plane Recommendations

I thought the Woods I had was very nice. If there are dealers near you may be worth checking the price.

    Convince me… LX3310 to L3560

I went from a B2301 to an L4701. Not the same machines, but roughly in the ballpark in my estimation. I was really pleasantly surprised how much better the L series was. I knew it’d be better, but there was even more difference than I had hoped for. The weight and size make things like...

    L4802 vs MX5400

I have an L4701. I definitely would have preferred an MX540. I didn’t buy it because at the time although it was only a few thousand more, there wasn’t 0% financing on the MX but was on the L, and that pushed it to being several thousand more. I am happy with the L. Does everything I’ve asked it...

3 pt bale mover? Other purposes?

I do really get a lot of use out of my FEL forks. I’d spring for them even if the budget is tight. Actually my budget IS very tight right now, so I sold my back blade and grading scraper. Never for a moment considered selling the forks. Forgive me if this is obvious, but you could “noodle”...

    Truck / trailer questions

I am far from an expert, but getting a 3/4 ton truck to occasionally tow 4000 pounds of tractor and another couple/few thousand pounds of trailer seems totally overkill to me. Weekly towing? Adding a plow? Ability to tow heavier loads? Sure. But I’d imagine any modern half ton truck would tow...

    That was really bad

What tires do you have? This scenario, locking brakes but tires just sliding on the grass going down hill, isn’t one I’ve really considered yet 😬. Thanks for sharing the story/warning!

    Tractor Disasters and Owner Abuse

You said something once (I think) about being across the slope/sideways at 45 degrees. And having a wheel lift. Is that right? I think about it from time to time. (Shudder when I do!)
