Why wouldn't you simply use a landscape rake? That's what they do. You could likely just rent one if you didn't want to buy it. They are pretty common sale items in craigslist and fb marketplace.

I'd give candle wax (paraffin) a try. Heat the snot out of the area then set a candle (or bar of paraffin) on the pin. Let the wax melt and be drawn into the joint. Hope it works for you.
