This happened yesterday close to me - Was about 200+ yards of destruction and the car isn't recognizable.

Talked to my friend who works at the Toyota dealership and he told me it was a Challenger. It took out the sign, two tents on either side of the drive, 10 cars including the TOP of the black SUV in front of the infinity dealer! It got airborne again over the double drive and went through the Toyota lot

My mind immediately went to Billy Joel's incredible song Allentown, which oddly enough was playing on the radio as I was running about town yesterday afternoon.

Stupid is as stupid does.
A friend of a coworker was there for the clean up. Pictures of the damages are unbelievable.

We had a family issue with a car which “stuck” the accelerator…and nearly had a similar result. The driver…an 18-yr old driver (my grandson) with almost NO experience…was able to keep his wits and turn OFF the ignition.

Unfortunately…that also ”locked” his steering and he crashed into a parked car. No one hurt…. Only properly damage…which was fortunate.

WHY did this happen..? A screwdriver was found lodged beneath the linkage….. with the mechanics Name engraved on it. (The servicing dealership paid all the losses.)

Wow - glad he was OK!! It is a sickening feeling that you never forget!

I had this happen once on a VERY powerful older car (67) where I had just installed a new power brake vacuum line that ran under the linkage. Tested and drove fine until I did a full-throttle pass & it hung up open. Over revved higher than I ever had when I stabbed the clutch in & I thankfully got it shut off. Had to do some deep breathing and change my shorts

They are not saying anything on this other than estimated speed was WELL above 100 at 1:30AM

Wow. What a story. Glad that it ended well.

Best thing is it happened at 1:00-1:30 AM so dealership was closed. Young guys with fast cars are invincible until their body tells them otherwise.

They weren't taught the idea of allowing "a reasonable allowable margin for error" in decision making.

Too bad enough lousy decision making occurred that this was the result. If anyone had to parish, at least it was the responsible party, presuming a mechanical/electrical failure did not cause this. If there is a silver lining, it’s that no one else is as injured or worse.

The only 'good' thing is that he didn't kill anyone, unlike the guy in Whitby that went wrong way down the 401 and killed 3 others.....

Yep. Saw it on wfmz earlier this week as well. Not surprising with all of the idiots on the road here in the valley. It's become downright dangerous to drive around here.
