Broke casting on backhoe and backhoe leaking

KTAC or not, I would absolutely be taking this to Kubota & the dealer for warranty resolution. 50 hours and broken casting... come on? IMO You don't know what or how it cracked and it should be up for the use. Do not take the notion that you "did it". FWIW & NOT useful to OP, but KTAC is...

Tire & Rim - more lessons learned the hard way

I have been doing very well up until this last Sunday evening - I have been putting in some long hours digging & moving soil/rock to level the area next to the house and add to the bank in front (posted some pic in another thread). Well, my stupidity caught up with me again as a strong line of...

    L2501 back hoe

I have the BH77 and it is totally worth it to me. I am using it all the time and per above switch off to the BB as needed. My property is full of glacial deposit boulders (sized from softballs to Suburbans). With the thumb, you can dig, move & occasionally carry a pretty big one if conditions...

using the grapple or backhoe to remove brush

Nice job. Stumps are a pain depending on the type of tree and age etc and each one can be different. You did good and it will come faster each time. In my case, efficiency with the BH increased exponentially after getting enough hours in to get where you are "doing vs. thinking" about the...

    Delivery Day!!!

Just don't max it, or run steady RPM for long periods initally. I got into the habit of bumping it up or down a bit during this time. As per above, you can definitely use it as it was intended, just not like a rented mule...! 🐎

    Important KTAC Insurance Update

Great points - I have state farm and will have to check on this but recall some bit about ratios or maximums on outbuildings. I am on KTAC for at least the duration of the financing and I think I remember some discussions where they are now limiting or changing coverage on older tractors...

Lifting 5gal cans of diesel fuel a problem

You must have a lot of needs to justify - If the link is right it is just under 1K...? I can lift/spill or buy a lot of transfer pumps for that! Shoot, I would put it towards the next implement :p

    Important KTAC Insurance Update

Interesting to hear this applied to old tractors that are used as tractors... The statement on agreed value is on-point for collector-classic cars/trucks/motorcycles and probably collectible antique tractors as well.

Lifting 5gal cans of diesel fuel a problem

Thanks for posting - interesting solutions. I have been mulling this over as I have been cranking through diesel these last couple of weeks like never before on my latest project. For me, it is not so much the lifting as it is not being able to get it started without spilling this "liquid...

using the grapple or backhoe to remove brush

This is what I have done in the area above minus the roundup. There were a few big trees and mostly 3"-6"ers mixed with scrub. Also, I have not yet seen the need to use the thumb for pulling but will add this technique to the arsenal

using the grapple or backhoe to remove brush

One of the larger landowners in the valley has one of these and uses it to maintain the edges of his fields and meadows among other things. Saw it in action about two weeks ago - AWESOME TOOL/"TOY"!!

using the grapple or backhoe to remove brush

I have been continuing the brushwork part on a project this week and was hoping the grapple would do it better but I have not had good success in my case. My LP grapple is great at picking up piles and the tree work I mostly use it for, but I have too many sunken boulders to push it ripping...

    battery disconnect

You hear the same things in the classic car world. Common sense, good insurance, and few basic deterrents for the casual idiots are generally what people do. Professionals or someone lesser that is smart and wants it will find a way... Regarding Disconnects: some use the brass knife style...

Storage? Portable Canopy Garage, door is too short.

I used one for years at my old house. Replaced the top twice during that time mainly due to degradation than physical damage failure. My tips: Keep it tight w/ extra HD bungee cords etc. Was careful to knock the heavy snow off I used two HD augers at angles on each down pole (like a boy scout...

    Bent Kubota zero turn deck

I have done as NIW said above, I take it off and apply judicious use of BFH/sledge. I typically use a BIG adjust wrench on lighter gauge stuff (shield etc.) but that definitely does not work on my deck. My property "grows" rocks as I am on a ridge with glacial deposit boulders. Unfortunately...

    Log skidding methods?

Thanks for posting Barts. Nice job on the log arch! One of the best home-built ones that I have seen. Any chance of a better closer pic?

Moving a lot of dirt with L2501

My 2 cents - This sounds similar to a long term project that I am doing on a natural grade/ unworked area - side yard (I am on a slope as well) Granted I have a lot more rock mixed in and occasional glacial deposit boulders - ugh. I think you are going to be extremely challenged unless your...

    SSQA Pin/

Wow again... Yes, of course, I lube it and clearly stated that it filled with dirt AFTER bolt broke & pin moved (thanks oldhokie for the defense!) Not really sure if dustyrusty is attempting humor or 5 o'clock happy hour came in the AM instead of PM ! ;) Pulled the pin & cleaned the bore...
