The quick hitch is the only way to go in my opinion. You'll save yourself a lot of time and hassle if you add the top link like the one in the pic. The hook that mine came with didn't work for any of my implements, the "Y" on the other hand makes all of them work fine.

My story is almost exactly the same as yours. I bought the L3800 and haven't looked back, it's perfect for my needs. You would have to figured out what the equivalent tractor is now. Mine is 38hp. In my opinion the HST, FEL and a quick hitch is a must.

I've waxed about once a year. So it's dirtier than it is clean. I do remember the first time I got it really dirty and there was something satisfying about it. Although, I was just as dirty as the tractor so when I hosed myself down, I went ahead and sprayed off my tractor as well.

I noticed mine was filthy a couple weeks ago so I washed it. Then I used some spray wax on it. Never thought I'd wax a tractor but the spray wax only takes a minute and the dirt rinses right off.

I did the 50hr service myself but I like maintaining my equipment myself. I would not worry about running past the 50hr mark.

I use a finish mower on my L3800 for mowing my yard and it works great, I don't have a need for another machine.

I have the L3800 and love it. It's used on a similar sized piece of property for all the things you're needing to do except for moving round bales. Most in here would say to buy the "bigger" tractor. I don't recall what I spent on the $300 hour service which I did myself. There's a debate...
