    Fuel Stabilizer and Winterization

I use the right hand white bottle in RCW's post in the 60 gallon belly tank of the Isuzu. I use fuel from it for the B2601. When I used gasoline, I used Stabil. Don't have anything but the 2 cars and pickup now that use gas. Wish they were diesel but cannot get a small car or pickup in...

    B2601 review and thoughts

I replaced the tool box with a bigger one from HF. Fits holes already there. Removed the PTO cover and the drawbar. Agree the fuel filter needs a guard. Based on owning previously two 2 series JDs and one 1 series, here is how the B is so much better. Main thing worse is the reverse on the...

    2 Wheel Drive

Always use 4wd. Otherwise, you have 2 wheel brakes, NOTHING on the front. Could go skidding downhill and go sideways and turn over.

Dealer warns front axle will wear out if left in 4x4

He's full of s___t. Should always run in 4wd unless going a long ways on pavement or forever on flat land. Too dangerous on hills using only 2wd. The rear wheels will just skid. Could skid sideways and cause it to turn over. 2wd = 2 wheel (rear) brakes only.

    Chipper for 3901

We replaced the 16 year old MacKissic TPH-122 with a WM WC46 a couple years ago when my source for leaves dried up, and I needed (due to age) a more horizontal inlet feed. It has worked well but succombs to roller feed plugs occasionally that require the low rise floor jack to lift the feed...

1.33 acres, heavily wooded and overgrown... Need advice on a tractor purchase!

For your needs, an 18 hp BX would do. Don't pay attention to the acreage/hp/size folks. I started 4wd (2wd Gravely didn't cut it) 18.5 hp JD 4010. JD quit making that low hp, and I need clearance of the 2 series (like 4010). So, currently have a B2601 on our very hilly 8.5 acres. Whereas...

    Thermostat

Do not replace thermostat unless you're SURE it is absolutely not working. Did this once on one of our cars and stripped one of the bolt holes (aluminum).

    Stingy on fuel

I just read a web site about stilt grass to know when to mow it. It's an annual; so you should be able to keep ahead by mowing before it seeds every year. Unfortunately it seeds starting in August.

    Ballast Box needed?

You need something on the 3ph in addition to filled rear tires. The benefit of a ballast box is that it does not stick out as far as most implements. For me, I generally use the brush hog. The back blade sticks out to the side and is too light to offer much ballast. The wood chipper is more...

What nobody mentions about a BX

I've run both the 2025R and now the B2601 at about 450 rpm PTO speed, about 2300 rpm on the B2601. I know from the 18.5 hp 4010 that I had first that I do not need the hp for brush hogging or wood chipping. They work fine at 450 PTO. The B2601's FEL is still a bit jerky unless you really...

    Stingy on fuel

I've quite sure a B would pull a single bottom plow. My JD 4010 (a 2 series) pulled these cultivator tines and opposed discs in ground that had a garden and some raised beds made with a Gravely rotary plow. Too bad they don't make a rotary plow for small 4wd tractors.

    Stingy on fuel

We hired 50-60 goats from the local firm here around Charlottesville. These eat stilt grass, but the guy said it would not be cost effectively because you'd need to do it for 4 or 5 years in a row. A lot easier though than mowing the entire property (once I've paid a forestry mulcher guy...

    Stingy on fuel

Our Mazda3 uses 87 octane and has 14/1 compression ratio. Does about 38 on hwy and averages 35.

What nobody mentions about a BX

The B2601 is FAR CLEANER than the 3 JDs I had, using 1/3 less fuel than any of them. Does not even blacken the back of the FEL like the JDs did. It's fuel consumption is 0.4 gph. A JD of equivalent hp would use over 0.6 gph.

Signal light lens and grill for

Something knocked off the leading left signal light lens today on the B2601. I've seen grills for these. Where does one get them? Guess it's the dealer for another lens? Messicks? Think some have replaced bulbs with LEDs. Source? Work okay? On our old 1983 Benz, its signal light system...
