David,
Nice collection and thanks for jogging my memory.
When the kids were young, they used to have a ball "skying"! i used to pull the them with a 5hp Johnson behind a little 10 or 12" V hull on what looked like a small surf board tied to the stern. Those were some fun times!
thanks.
Sasko,
What is your intended main use for your grapple? That will help determine whether a long bottom or root rake (clamshell) style will be a better fit for your intended needs.
I have a BX and chose a 48" Wicked, weighs about the same as my bucket and am controlling it with a Surplus...
Sam,
I run the same setup on my rear blade. Never needed gauge wheels. Just make sure the blade pivot post is plumb with blade fully lowered. That way when it’s pivoted left or right, it’ll stay make contact with ground across the entire width.
For gravel, I’ll run the blade like you show...
Just keep singing to yourself.....Merry Christmas to me, Merry Christmas to me, Merry Christmas dear Skeets, Merry Christmas to me! Just like a big kid on Christmas morning, it'll be here before you know it! Enjoy the wait and the new tractor!
Regards,
Great job on that repurposed blade!!!
If it makes you feel any better, my organizational method is, a pile for everything and everything in its pile!
Regards
Fatfenders,
good write up. I’m using a similar looking mat on both my front and rear blades and it wears like iron. I plow gravel, asphalt and concrete. Are you pulling or pushing with your blade? Reason I ask is, I got 4 years out of the first piece before it tore at one of the grooves. If...
Grapples are nice to have.
Can't help you with a third function, as I went the diverter route on my BX2370. Bucket dump and curl hoses became supply to diverter valve, new hoses to curl cylinder. Diverter valve from Surplus Center. Hardest part was turning a new handle to accept the switch...
Orange1,
I'm not familiar with that kit but, it looks like a straight pipe thread nipple between the valve and male coupler.
Since it doesn't sound like you're familiar with pipe sizes, google 'pipe size chart' it'll give you nominal OD of the pipe. Just guessing but, looks to be 3/8 or 1/2"...
I’ve heard some early ones had welding issues which is why I went with an EA Wicked. But, for that price, you can drill out a lot of pins and buy many pounds of rod.
regards,
Not a backhoe model but, I'll toot my own horn. Maybe some day this will make the 'fabrication stickies' page😉
Other options I've seen are a plexiglass or lexan shield off the ROPS. Something like the old stand up pay phone booth. Won't protect you from all the elements but will keep the snow...
OP, I use my grapple mainly for brush but, within its limits, it can handle trunks. I barely got this mulberry blow down off the ground this summer. After cutting in half, no issues.
And, a cab really makes those winter cores a whole lot more enjoyable.
I'm on the small end of the scale with my BX so when shopping around (web and youtube), I was looking for light weight so as to not limit the carrying capacity too much. I went with an EA Wicked root rake style as a long bottom would have severely limited my dump height. Whichever style you...

Congratulations and welcome to the addiction. You'll get a lot of work out of that tractor. Though it will be with smaller bites. I'm always amazed at the work these little tractors can do.
Welcome aboard.
I remember when people wouldn't bat an eye if you were riding in the bed of a pickup going down the highway.
And, when you didn't need a drivers license to haul a load of grain to the elevator.
