    Hydraulic Fluid

My advice is: do NOT do any maintenance on someone else's tractor unless you've thoroughly discussed it with the owner. But even then, you are taking a huge risk ... if something goes wrong, all the agreements will likely be forgotten.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Continuing to pull stumps in the future mini-orchard & vegetable garden. I knew this one would take a while. Patient digging, with occasional pushes and tugs with the backhoe to check for movement. I said "ok, we're almost there" more times than I'd like to admit. We were, actually, not almost...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Pulling stumps from the future mini-orchard and vegetable garden. This is looking south. Area also gets morning and afternoon sun. A two car garage will eventually go on the other side of the tractor. A bunch of the trees behind the tractor will come out to make room for the garage, let more...

    *Thinking* about tractor operating

Great topic. I try to avoid the abrupt movements but I do jiggle the backhoe to empty the bucket. Totally agree with you about side-to-side loading the loader arm and I try to balance loads ... if I'm picking up a rock I try to center it. My rule of thumb is to warm up the engine enough so that...

BX23S low pressure on one backhoe outrigger

Dan--just want to make sure I undestand how this test works ... is the idea to pressurize the rod side of the cylinder ... if the piston seal is leaking the base end of the cylinder will also then pressurize but the force will be higher (because the area is larger on the base end side of the...

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

Thanks D2 ... I just found a comment you made on another thread six years ago ... "Typically the brackets for the chain is attached at the same pin the top link has. One one each side, then the lynch pin holds it all in place." I also saw a follow-on comment by the OP saying there wasn't any...

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

A couple of years ago I looked at the back of my BX and didn't see any good places to attach limiter chains. Not wild about using the ROPS. I'll have to do some more research ... I have a lot more experience now with the tractor and tractoring, so maybe I'll see something I hadn't noticed before.

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

Unfortunately there's only one hole. I'm likely going to be installing a Pat's Quick Hitch (my two implements are not QuickHitch compatible). So that's going to push the implements even farther away. Fortunately manual top links don't cost very much. If I put on a hydraulic top n tilt then...

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

It might have been this one ... I know it was something green. Really short and simple ... you'll be disappointed probably. But I'll tell you what my confusion was ... So I had been thinking that to lower the aggressiveness of the front blade, you should tilt the box blade forward, so that the...

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

@85Hokie thanks for reminding me about limit chains. I remember reading about them but had forgotten. @Tire Biter not just smoothing ... this weekend I had rippers down. But it hadn't occurred to me to "just" take the blade off. Enough of a hassle though I would get a longer top link first...

Box blade operation, do I need a longer top-link?

I run a BX23S with a 4' box blade that I'm learning how to use for tuning up my driveway. I've graduated from making the driveway worse to being able to make it better. I had a fundamental confusion about which way to adjust the top link in order to change how aggressive the front-facing blade...

BX2380 - FEL Excavation Project - Possible or no?

Well you learn something every day. Before I clicked on the hyperlink, I legit thought you had attached a shovel to the front of your tractor. "No way!" I exclaimed as I zoomed the photo to take a closer look.

BX2660 Losing Engine Oil from "Mystery" Engine Port

Thank you for this. I have a BX with 165 hours on it. I too have become complacent.

Messick's Telescopic Stabilizer Kit - BX Series

I have a BX23S which doesn't have rear remotes, but I have all but decided to make it happen once I have the funds. The key choice will be electronically-actuated valves or manually operated valves. Cost versus flexibility. The top link is by far more important to me but I'll build out for at...

Messick's Telescopic Stabilizer Kit - BX Series

I don't have any quick change yet, so when I'm changing implements I leave the telescopic stabilizers unpinned until I get the implement on. It's still a pain though, and I'm thinking seriously of getting the Pat's Quick Change. I have a landscape rake that I can't get as high off the ground in...

    Backhoe Owners poll.......

I have a BX23S and absolutely love having the backhoe. It was a requirement. I've used it more than the FEL.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Excellent! I thought somebody might find this useful. The thing I'm most proud of is the use of the two friction hitches (the pipe knot and the Klemheist). I picked the pipe knot for the hosting because I was able to tie that knot on using the end of the haul rope. The Klemheist was actually...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I need to pull the pump from my 135' well. The downtube is 20' sticks of schedule 80 PVC threaded together, so I can't just yard it out like I could with polyethylene. So built a crane using a ladder and tractor. Weight is minimal, but stability is important ... nice to have the backhoe because...

    Thought for today

I like to joke that "money won't buy happiness but it makes misery a lot more tolerable." But personally I prefer to be happy.
