M5640 with an 8 foot cutter?

    B vs BX Series

The B series is not as common as the BX series because it is more expensive. I have two B series tractors. Both have position control. The BX series does not have position control, and this is a show stopper for me. Not certain, but I believe that all B series tractors have position control...

    ePTO Kit?

Expect the EPTO (540E) to reduce available PTO HP and torque considerably. IIRC, your M6060 is rated at 64 PTO HP at rated engine RPM so operating at 540E engine RPM will certainly result in less than 50 available PTO HP. Consequently, you will not be able to operate the genset at full load in...

    ePTO Kit?

You cannot change your 7060 to 1000 PTO but EPTO is a dealer installed option. SDT

    ePTO Kit?

No. 1000 RPM PTO shafts are fine spline whereas 540 RPM PTO shafts are course spline. An adapter is needed to connect a machine designed for use with a 540 RPM PTO to a tractor with a 1000 RPM PTO. No gearbox is needed. Just adjust the throttle to produce 540 RPM on the "1000 RPM PTO. SDT

    ePTO Kit?

Some tractors have both 540 and 1000 RPM PTO shafts. Other tractors have selectable 540/1000 PRM PTO. One can use 1000 RPM PTO to drive a generator designed for 540 RPM PTO operation by adjusting the engine RPM accordingly. Conceptually, this is the same as using EPTO. SDT

    Steering wheel loses straight-ahead position

I've been known to brake steer when needing both hands. SDT

    ePTO Kit?

Of course PTO HP is reduced at reduced engine RPM. Torque is correspondingly reduced because the EPTO unit increases PTO speed vis a vis no EPTO (It's selectable, of course). EPTO is intended for PTO loads requiring 540 PTO RPM but not requiring high HP. This allows one to drive such moderate...

    Steering wheel loses straight-ahead position

    Steering wheel loses straight-ahead position

Hydrostatic steering does that. It is normal and you will need to get used to it. SDT

    ePTO Kit?

Of course not, but operating the engine at around 1,700 RPM rather than 2,400 reduces wear and tear, accumulated hours (revolutions), and noise. SDT

    ePTO Kit?

EPTO is a dealer installed option on some models, e.g., M9960 (I have it on mine). It is standard equipment on other models including the M7060 HD12 and HDC12. Your dealers are being lazy. SDT

What can my tractor handle as finish mowers go??

I've never used a ZT so cannot say with certainty but do know that they are designed to travel fast when conditions are good. 25 acres is a lot of ground. One would think a larger tractor/mower combination is in order unless conditions, e.g., obstacles, terrain, etc., prohibit. SDT

What can my tractor handle as finish mowers go??

Firstly, finish mowers are not designed to cut grass 8"-12" tall and will not do so well. Use a rough cut (bush hog type) for such chores. A 48" rough cut mower is enough for your 2501, though you could get by with a very light weight 60" if conditions are not too bad. (12" of heavy grass IS...

M5640 with an 8 foot cutter?

I do not think that that is a good deal. Recently, my dealer had a couple of M5660SUHDs (current version of 5640). These tractors were new and unsold but had been sitting around for a year or so and had aged inventory incentives. Note: Few, is any, dealers will tell potential buyers of such...

M5640 with an 8 foot cutter?

If I were to buy a mounted 8' cutter for use with an M5640 (which I would not), I would buy the 2596 model. The 2510 is a 9' 10" version. I once owned a Woods MDS 1260 mounted twin spindle 10' cutter. It weighed nearly 3,000 Lbs. as set up and, regardless of what the sales brochure says, a 100...

RPM's, HP and Torque, Oh MY!!!

HP is HP. So, actually, your motorcycle produced more power than your neighbors JD. That said, your motorcycle was designed to produce 85 HP for very short periods of time at very high RPM whereas, the JD is designed to produce 80 PTO HP all day, everyday, for years at probably somewhere around...

M5640 with an 8 foot cutter?

Shopping for a 12' or 15' bat wing now for use with my M9960. It will handle it at reasonable speed when not in EPTO. All of my areas have been mowed for decades so I mow only grass. That said, heavy grass cuts much harder than tall weeds/brush, etc., especially if one cuts closely as I do. I...
