Going by the specs on mine that's not enough tractor to handle a 8' 3pt cutter. My Bushhog requires 50ptohp minimum and it weighs over 2000 lbs.

Keep in mind a pull type is more forgiving on the tractor. 8' only needs 40 ptohp so that might be a good option.

If the wife gives you trouble put her on the tractor and let her see what 8 or 10 hrs of seat time feels like.
Beware though, mine helped me in the hay field and then decided she needed a pink cab tractor. My dealer said he could make it happen for the right price. I got her out of there as fast as I could.

so it's right at the limits I guess, the Land PRide dealer says it will but the more I think about it a 7 foot might be a better range.

The Dealer is coming by tomorrow to look at my current tractor for trade in value

Tractor horsepower range 3-point (2596 Model = 50 - 110 hp) & (2510 Model = 60 - 110 hp)

Pull-type (2596 Model = 30 - 110 hp) & (2510 Model = 50 - 110 hp)

If I were to buy a mounted 8' cutter for use with an M5640 (which I would not), I would buy the 2596 model. The 2510 is a 9' 10" version.

I once owned a Woods MDS 1260 mounted twin spindle 10' cutter. It weighed nearly 3,000 Lbs. as set up and, regardless of what the sales brochure says, a 100 PTO HP tractor is marginal.

I would not recommend anything larger/heavier than a HD 6' or light duty 7' for use with an M5640 in anything but absolutely ideal conditions.

I've been doing this for a long time.

Understood, I was primarily referencing the 2096, but the more I think of it the 7 foot would be best as then I am not operating at the "limits" if I encounter heavier brush etc...

Thanks

So the dealer got back to me today..

They will give me 14K trade in on my JD2032R, the M5640SU (400 hours) is 24.5K

with tax I need to come up with around 11K and I would still need to buy a rotary mower.

so 11K + (used 2K) for a 7 foot rotary puts me at 13K so I can save some time....

Tough decisions :)

I do not think that that is a good deal.

Recently, my dealer had a couple of M5660SUHDs (current version of 5640). These tractors were new and unsold but had been sitting around for a year or so and had aged inventory incentives. Note: Few, is any, dealers will tell potential buyers of such incentives and usually will not pass them on.

The 5660 is a DPF machine and is priced noticeably higher than the 5640 was.

The asking price for these tractors was $24K. Both have since been sold but you should be able to buy a used 5640 for considerably less.

By the way, ground speed for the 5660 is in the currently available 5660 sales brochure as well as the not user friendly Kubota website. Should be the same for the 5640.

A twin 8' is easier on the tractor than a standard 7'. The 7' sticks out so far from the tractor it makes it very tail heavy.

Might pay to check with another dealer. When I bought my first M9000 I got 3 different prices on the same tractor.

Where in Tn are you? Best Kubota dealer in the country is in Chattanooga.

that's not far 2.5 hours for me...
Tag Equipment, ask for Eric. 423-265-0472

He may not be any better than what you've already priced but he saved me $5K on my tractor. He also did me right on a trade in when I bought my 2nd M9000.

Very nice people to work with. It may take a little longer to get something because they're a very small dealership. It has been in the same family since it started and was the first Kubota dealer in the country from what I was told.

Hope they can help you out. Tell him Phil Jackson sent you.
