These are from my first attempts at astrophotography earlier this year, the Orion nebula and the whirlpool galaxy.

There is a definite learning curve and I am a lot more comfortable with sports photography but I plan to fine tune my technique and equipment setup. View attachment 83011

What telescope were these shot through?

was cleaning around pond and shocked the water for this month. Frogs out, Painter turtle floating out in front of paddle boat. My Barn Cat that sits on the dock till I get her in the boat. New Flag and pole topper for the 4Th

Those were shot using my Canon EF 800 f5.6 lens. Because of the pandemic and stuff being out of stock, I just received the pieces needed to mount my Celestron CPC 1100HD telescope (basically equivalent to a 2800mm f10 lens for astro) and tracking scope to my Skywatcher mount so hopefully I will have a chance to try that setup soon.

Viewing conditions are at least as important as the optical part in getting photos and they vary radically and never seem to be great when I have time.

For comparison, the first photo is of the moon using the Canon EF 800 f5.6 lens and the second is using the Celestron CPC 1100HD.

And the EF 800 lens feels more at home doing wildlife. I shot this last year on the Mississippi river in northern IL using the EF 800 lens with 1.4X extender and it is still heavily cropped because the eagle didn't want to get close. It was a worse day for the fish.

The first picture is a bobcat. The last is an owl.
The coyote picture was the 3rd one. I got it set to take 3 pictures every 15 seconds after motion detected. The second picture got his attention and he looked at the camera on the 3rd.
The owl was attracted to a flash prior. I think a raccoon set it off before the owl swept in.
I can't hear the camera, but coyotes and deer can. I'll have to post some more. Got some good deer photobombs.

I thought it was a bobcat.. just wasn't sure Michigan had em.

Awesome shots.. looking at that fish you almost feel bad for him. He's like oh shiz. Never seen one that close up getting carried away, again very nice!

I did feel bad for the fish. He was just swimming along and next thing it was "what the hell happened to me..."

It is one of the reasons I love shooting high school sports because they are a lot of fun and only very rarely are people seriously hurt.

I had two opportunities to photograph the young lady running hurdles. This was a sectional meet with qualifying for state competition and she handily won the race but the timer malfunctioned so she had to run it again 30 minutes later. Fortunately she won again and her time qualified her for state.

While enjoying my morning coffee, I was watching the hen lead her brood around the yard. Woke up a sleeping doe I missed.

These are some of the woodpeckers that hang out around my area. The little downy woodpecker started out very shy and I had difficulty getting a photo and then one day the little smartass landed on the lens hood of my camera. I am lucky he didn't start pecking the expensive carbon fiber hood!

It is, I installed it about 25 years ago and the price differential from 45 wasn't very much at that time. Rohn was producing it at their factory about 25 miles away. I bought everything except the base section through a distributor but I picked up the base section at the factory so that I could get it installed and the concrete cured while waiting for the distributor to get the tower sections and hardware in stock.

There was a small surcharge for direct factory purchase but it was worth it to get the base set up and ready for the rest of the tower.

I did the same, at about the same time:

120' - Rotating Tower System bearing at 60', guy ring at 100'

At almost 76 I still climb but not comfy climbing over that guy ring now.
