Gas prices here dropped about 20 cents in the last 10 days, to $5.49.
During the same time, diesel went UP 20 cents, to $5.89.

Refilled yesterday at an Albuquerque Costco. Regular gas is down to $4.39. Still too high, but a big jump in the right direction.

I doubt it. Power companies are saving money with cheaper natural gas (which is very abundant in the US). Coal is no longer a cheap option for power generation. France is only restarting old coal plants because they don’t have access to cheaper natural gas.

$4.69 here in southern Maine today.
I saw an analist on NBC say the first hurricane that comes into Texas the fuel will jump to $10. a gallon over night.
Just a matter of time.

And here is why, They were told to clean up their act seven years ago and still have not complied.

“EPA is now considering a discretionary redesignation for (portions of) these counties in New Mexico and Texas for the 2015 ozone NAAQS under Clean Air Act section 107(d)(3) based on current monitoring data and other air quality factors. If the area is redesignated to nonattainment, the state(s) will be required to submit a State Implementation Plan to bring the area into attainment with the 2015 ozone NAAQS,” the Biden administration wrote.

The state of New Mexico has required natural gas capture at wells and the end of flaring for several years now. Texas still allows flaring.

I feel sorry for the truckers / rv’s / farmers using diesel in quantity. This amount was on the diesel pump right before I bought my couple gallons for the tractor… the sticker is funny…and tragic.

Texas allows Flaring during drilling and for 10 days after well completion (a somewhat important detail you left out).

There are permitted 'exceptions' allowed also. The Texas Railroad Commission regulates all of this if you want to study it.

Gas stations are gonna start requiring people to pay inside pretty soon. Saw it in Florida back when gas and diesel skyrocketed the last time.

With there pumps set to shut off at $xxx people swipe there cards a second time and fill up.

If they hit the purchase limit a second time, that second charge gets flagged as a "double bill" by the credit card and fuel card companies. Then it's up to the stations to prove that you purchased that second amount of fuel.

I was having to swipe my fuel card 3 times to get a full tank of diesel depending on the station. So I would have two $75.00 charges plus an odd amount on the third swipe.

Pretty soon they either quit accepting that fleet card or you were forced to go inside and prepay.

Power companies don’t want coal anymore. Old plants are closing and no new ones being built. Natural gas is both cleaner, and cheaper to operate the power plants.
