I remember when the most recent run came out. A bunch of people kept them because they figured they wouldn’t last long so they’d be rare and valuable. They’re worth $2.00 because so many people kept them they aren’t particularly rare.

Kind of like if your ancestors were around when the CSA was a thing and they lived within its borders, somebody in your family probably has an envelope full of Confederate money in it. Mildly interesting but not exactly rare.

Whether 2016 or not, that’s astonishing if true.

I’ve heard you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.

Got a few $2 bills and $1 Silver Certificates somewhere.

Have several flavors of the $1 coins.

It's 2 things..

#1 The modern movement towards electronic currency, "swipe your card" or phone... cash app/venmo/paypal and all the other nonsense.

#2 The ever increasing "dumbing down" of society.

A similar thing happened at a local McDonalds, but when the police arrived, they advised the manager that they were legal tender. There is no shortage of stupid or uneducated people walking among us, and just because they have never seen a 2 dollar bill, doesn't mean that they are counterfeit. I don't believe that counterfeiters are stupid enough to duplicate a 2 dollar bill when they can make more money by counterfeiting $100 bills.
In February 2012, the BEP printed 512,000 Series 2009 $2 Star Notes, in anticipation of more regular runs being printed later in 2012. Series 2009 $2 bills were issued to banks during the autumn of 2012.[30][31]

In November 2013, the BEP began printing Series 2013 $2 notes for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta; these notes entered circulation in early 2014. A total of 44,800,000 notes were ordered for fiscal year 2014, which ran from October 2013 through September 2014.[32] Series 2017A $2 notes were first issued to banks in December 2019.

Years ago I was enjoying a pint south of the Canadian border at a bar. A local - and retired marine - was going on about a similar story.

I told him we had two dollar coins in Canada now and he couldn't believe it. So I pulled one out of my pocket and gave it to him. He was enthralled and thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

He offered it back and I said don't worry, you can keep it. That seemed to make his day so much that he started buying me beers for the rest of the night!

A few years ago when I was actively chasing DX stations on amateur radio (rare or unusual stations) I would go to my local Wells Fargo branch and 'order' $200 in $2 bills. I would send one with my 'qsl card' (a postcard size card with confirmation info of our contact) to cover the postage for the qsl card of other station. I received many comments after they received it that they had never seen a $2 US bill.

btw I had to order the bills from WF because they only had a few 'in stock'. The bills I received were always crispy new.

The Brits have a similar 2 pound coin. I have some somewhere. Just in case I go back.

That has to be quite heavy to carry around in your pocket, especially if you have more than one!:ROFLMAO:
Yes $1 and $2 coins only now. Pain to carry so I throw them in my car's "ash" tray.

With inflation I'm sure we will soon get $5 and $10 coins to replace our plastic cash. A $20 bill seems to be the equivalent of a $5 bill 20 years ago...

The scrap yards here hand them out frequently. I think it started with one in Houston. They had a commercial on TV advertising that they paid in $2 bills. Last thing I want is dozens and dozens of $2 bills....
