We had blueberry rhubarb pie for dessert last night. Good stuff.

I forgot you're married to the pie queen. I bet it was delicious.

Kids will be back later this week, I'll do a blueberry pie next weekend. I might need some constructive feedback on appearance and filling consistency.

Had more tacos for lunch again today. Went and got a regulator so I could fire up the blackstone. Gonna do burgers tonight too.

Now if this will just digest quick enough, i need to put the mower back on and go cut out front while there's still daylight.

Kind of a deconstructed Spring Roll with shrimp in a bowl.

Pretty tasty.

N.Y,
Some baby backs on the Weber kettle grill with a couple chunks of crabapple
1000003714.jpg

They were a meaty rack
1000003715.jpg

Made some calico beans to go with them
1000003713.jpg

And a batch of pickled radishes

I love the calico beans and they are very quick to make. Here's a very old video I made about the recipe we use

My youngest youngin's birthday is this weekend. She's our wild child of the 3. I've made cakes for all my kids every year since birth.

She often asks for bizarre, off the wall, sometimes inedible cakes. Couple years ago she wanted an all blueberry cake with blueberry icing, gum balls, lolly pops, and chocolate strawberries. I took a deep breath and said ok.
20230610_145544.jpg
The blueberry cake part was easy, it was the icing that got me. Power had gone out and this was my poor frosting at almost 80 degrees in the house.

Another year was a pink cake, chocolate icing, little suckers, and gummy worms
20240615_133024.jpg

Last year was a strawberry cake with strawberry icing, red flowers and pearls that could crack a tooth if you hit em wrong
20241102_145434.jpg

Last night I ask her what kind of cake she wants. She tells me she wants either a gummy bear or unicorn cake with rainbow icing. I thought to myself, no ma'am. I can't do no dang 3D bear or horse head. So I don't whats gonna happen but stay tuned, its going down saturday LOL.

That reminds me of one of my daughter’s birthday parties (late June in Texas, outdoors= bad plan).

She wanted unicorn and my wife found all the paper goods with the unicorn and some castle for the party. This was when the bakeries were just starting to be able to “spray paint” onto the cake icing. So my wife took a napkin of the theme to a bakery and ordered the sheet cake size needed and asked if they were able to put that picture on the cake icing. The reply was “OF COURSE, WE CAN DO THAT”. Neither my wife or I thought to ask the million dollar question of “HOW MUCH”. A couple of weeks later on the day of the party we picked up the cake and it had been beautifully hand decorated with true icing by some baking artist that made it look exactly like the picture on the napkin! Cost was over $200 and that was 20-25 years ago!

Then it was about 110 degrees outside that day so we knew it was going to melt that icing into a gooey mess so we left it on the kitchen counter until it was time for the cake. We drove to the neighborhood park, set up and had the party. I was dispatched home to retrieve the cake, and when I was picking up the box there were sugar ants all around the box! So a little bit of blowing and shaking ants off the cake ensued. Took the cake to the park, cut it and served it (ants and all).

It was beautiful and probably one of the best cakes I have ever eaten but it was not the price point we had expected!

Have fun with yours!

Well, our youngest had a good birthday. Its tradition the birthday child gets to choose what we eat, watch and do for their birthday weekend.

She decided tonight she wanted taquitos (like I aint made enough of them the past few weeks) but with a side of fettuccine.

I pleated for her to pick a different side. Atleast something closer to south of the border. But she wouldn't. Until tonight, I've never had mexican and italian at the same time. Y'all have seen both so I'll spare you a pic of this sacrilegious combo we were forced to consume LOL. It was "interesting" having the two together though.

Got her cake finally done. Ended up having to incorporate some inedible objects to fulfil the unicorn rainbow theme. I was already 6+ cups of confectioners sugar in just for the vanilla buttercream and the purple buttercream. No way I was gonna try to tackle a friggin rainbow LOL

Time to get things together for fajita night!

So normally, I reverse sear when I have a flank or skirt. Just cause of the volume i'm dealing with. But i've been having regulator issues with both my grill and griddle (same cheap regulators) and have not bought new ones yet. So time to improvise with some good ole cast iron

Thank y'all so much for the compliments.

Too bad were all so scattered about. With all this awesome food y'all are always posting, we could have one hell of a cooking party.

How's about some quick 20 minute smashburgers.
