Cut a piece off and use it to make ham broth. Then make some dumplings in the ham broth. It is a great way to cook dumplings.

Then some good ham and bean soup from the rest of the ham that you could freeze for some good eatin' for several days as the winter drags on. Bean soup with some fresh homemade bread. :)

Daren - if you’re ever back in my neighborhood, I can hook you up with a lot of maple limbs! I have tons of them since I can’t burn them. Guessing a good size for a smoker.👍

I actually use regular sized chunks of fire wood. Been buying locally from academy sports. A bag will last me two smokes.

We can burn here pretty much anytime we want unless we are in a drought.

Daren - YUM!

"Colonel Popjangles 17-herb-and-spice (2 of which are blends) Fried Chicken" with beans and macaroni salad. No idea how I came up with this particular spice blend, but it has a LOT of flavor...

Heres the recipe for the maple glaze. It's pretty yummy and tastes similar to the sweet and sour meatloaf recipe I posted on page one.

3/4 cup maple syrup. 2 Tbsp brown sugar, two Tbsp worchestershire sauce, 2 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp mustard powder

It is cold out and when you come in from cleaning up the snow a man/woman needs something to warm them up sooooo,, this simple drink works pretty well, just make sure you are done for the day cause hot drinks enter the blood stream a lot quicker tha cold ones it seems!
1 teaspoon brown sugar ( I use the light brown sugar),1 tablespoon butter (soft) it calls for unsalted butter but I really cant tell the difference,,
1 dash ground cinnamon,
1 dash ground nutmeg,
1 dash ground all spice,
I never figured out what a dash is just go by taste 1 splash vanilla extract
2 ounces rum (dark) (if you like a spiced rum you might try that , like maybe sailor Jerrys or Captain Morgan,) or what ever rum you have in the cupboard, after 2 or 3 it dont much matter
5 ounces water (hot) I use boiling water it makes the butter melt faster,, or and I just thought about it, you could melt the butter first and put that in the hot water, that might work too.
Its not fancy but it severs its purpose

Put a half ham in the oven this morning. Had some for lunch. Left a good bit of ham on the bone and put it in a pot with great Northerners onion celery carrots ground chipotle soy sauce ham stock paste and a splash of liquid smoke.

I had not had tomato soup(Campbells) since I was a kid and living at home. My wife was eating some brand the other day and said how good it was, so I told he I would make her some home made tomato soup. After looking online at recipes and videos this was my choice. It turned out much better that the soup my mother bought in a can though. I added 3 de-seeded jalapenos that were not called for in the recipe though. They were just enough for a little back heat.

Need help on cooking venison. Never cooked it before. Thawed out a 2 lb chunk my neighbor gave me following this recipe, pretty much your standard stew recipe, brown meat, sauté onions etc, add liquid and simmer until tender. I have simmered for a couple hours, haven’t yet added carrots and potatoes. Sauce tastes wonderful, but meat is so lean it is kind of tasteless. What do you do to remedy this? I can’t eat bacon, so can’t add that! I only marinated in milk for 24 hours, following this recipe:

Suggestions for other ways of cooking venison? I have a couple backstraps that neighbor said if I cooked it past medium rare I’d regret it.

This years a little off. Wifes on the covid ward for a few more days so she's working 8am to 8pm.

Daughters in the hospital, sons household is an quarantine.

So I'm cooking up a spiral cut honey smoked ham with brown sugar glaze.

Making up my candied carrots and green bean casserole.

I'm gonna put half of what we make including dessert in my daughters freezer so she and her husband can enjoy a Christmas dinner when they get home from the hospital without having to cook. All they will have to do is pull it out of the freezer and nuke it. 😁😁😁🤣🤣

Son's in laws are on quarantine as well due to being exposed to the same person. So my sons mother in law is having a family dinner for them
