Plus 10C (50F)today, dry but very windy, thought it would be a good time to put on the chains. Flurries/snow in the forecast next week plus winter is just around the corner. Chains went on easy driving them on, will recheck tightness after driving a bit when the time to use them shows up.

I'll bet that you are blonde! I was told that you are supposed to fill that hole with sand and oil to make a slurry that will polish the piston cylinders and the crankshaft bearings. I wouldn't recommend it because it might be harmful to your tractor.

I cleaned up the RC3712 folding cutter and removed it from the M after parking it for the winter. Next up was to hook up the 16ft dump trailer and empty the 1/2 load of firewood that has been in there for about a year! I want to pick up another trailer load of firewood before winter really gets here, so I needed to get this done.

Then I started to modify the QH15 (converting it to a QH16) by welding in some CAT 3 to CAT 1 bushing halves and a small piece of flat bar that I cut down. I installed the QH in preparation for hooking up the EA land leveler tomorrow so that I can clean up the gravel driveway before the snow starts to fall. I'll make adjustments to the QH15 over the weekend if it needs it.

When I started using fuel nozzles rather than 5 gallon cans to fill up the MX, I didn't like the way the nozzle would deform the tank inlet, which it would do if I weren't holding the nozzle. A couple of years ago I bought a new cap with the idea that I'd drill a hole in the old one and use it to support the fuel nozzle while filling up.

I was heading out to the gas station this morning to fill up the 58 gallon JohnDow storage tank since diesel prices have dropped a fair amount, and figured I'd test out this idea. It works quite well and might just prevent an issue with the neck of the fuel tank. The shiny new cap is shown in the second photo.

It occurred to me today that the benefit of storage tanks shows up at both ends. It's not just the annoyance of filling up a tractor using 5 gallon containers, it's also the annoyance of filling up and transporting a bunch of 5 gallon containers.

Serveral delivery companies in the area because of oil fields just 10min North of me, they all require a 300 gallon minimum. The Farm Diesel application is pretty easy with Texas.
I have 3 other diesel tanks, each 300 gal. 2 stand tanks and 1 sled type tank.
I only got 450 gallons this year, can't exactly shred or plant seed if we don't get rain.

I like the cap idea.

You can adjust your engine speed while under a loaded condition and bring the frequency down to 60 Hz.

I like your price per gallon! I paid $3/gallon of dyed diesel yesterday but only got 52 gallons. I have another JohnDow 106 gallon tank so I'm more than good for diesel storage.

I have two JohnDow tanks and I would buy them again. I've never owned Vevor tanks but have looked at lots of photos of them. The components that Vevor use don't appear to be of the same quality as those used by JD. Compare the nozzles for example, compare the quality of the crimped hose fittings (hydraulic hose vs. garden hose) and the JD pumps are made in Italy, not China. If you need technical or warranty support JD has a phone number and a CS email address, but what are your chances of getting help from Vevor? I can't speak to the longevity or reliability of the JD and Vevor storage tanks, or the long-term performance of the blown tank shell in terms of exposure to UV and other environmental variables, but I would expect a US company specializing in automotive service equipment for the last 40 years to have a better handle on this.

My decision to support a US company over a Chinese one is personal, and I'm ok with paying more for a product that's designed and made by a company that specializes in automotive service equipment. I'm not saying that Vevor owners have made a bad choice, just that my criteria for choosing a product is different to theirs.

At the end of the day, these tanks and nozzles store and dispense fuel. Given the cost of fuel and the amount of fuel purchased over the next 20 years, the upfront savings of a Vevor over a JohnDow are insignificant. I'd rather support a US company that has been in business for decades and that makes a quality product rather than a Chinese conglomerate who makes a clone of a quality product but comes up short (in my opinion).
